San Diego, CA – Dual Fatal Wrong Way Wreck in Deer Springs

Investigators are looking for clues after a March 30, 2025, wrong-way crash killed two people on Interstate 15.

911 dispatchers first started to receive calls about two drivers unconscious and trapped in their vehicles after a wrong-way collision just north of the Deer Springs exit at about 2:22 a.m. Sunday. Several other vehicles also hit debris that was scattered across freeway lanes.

Paramedics and other first responders were able to extricate the drivers from both vehicles, but both were pronounced deceased.

The Deer Springs area, in San Diego’s North County, was mostly ranchland until October 1883, when a group of Los Angeles investors purchased Rancho Rincon del Diablo. This group sold the land to the newly formed Escondido Company in 1884. On December 18, 1885, investors incorporated the Escondido Land and Town Company, and in 1886, this company purchased the 12,814-acre area for approximately $100,000.
