Deadly Collision in the San Diego Area Near SDSU

The California Highway Patrol said the multi-vehicle wreck happened just after 1 a.m. on eastbound I-8 near College Avenue.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, one car was engulfed in flames as firefighters worked to put it out.

The driver who hit the car that burst into flames said she crashed into it moments after that vehicle slammed into a big rig truck.

Sprawling San Diego State University (SDSU) dominates the College Area, a residential community in the Mid-City region of San Diego, California. A few neighborhoods in the College Area were developed in the 1930s, but most came along in the postwar period.

On August 18, 1948, the “Campus Drive-In” movie theater with a capacity for 900 cars was built at the intersection of College Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard. The opening night films were Give My Regards to Broadway and The Kansan. The final two features in 1983 were The Dark Crystal and Dragonslayer.
