Should I join the Army like I've always wanted to do, or join the (safer) Air Force because I'm smart enough?

2010-05-21 23:33:34 +0000	If the dedication to duty that you are going to show is indicated by usage of the phrase "...and have a reasonably safe job...", do us in the Infantry a favor and become an AF pilot. Hey, at least you can drop ordnance from 10,000ft to help us out once in awhile (and then brag about how you "saved the grunts"). Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

2010-05-21 22:54:44 +0000	Do what you want to do, not what your parents and instructors want to do. All branches deploy, not just the Army. Granted, you're more likely to face danger as infantry than most other Air Force jobs but the Air Force isn't 100% safe. I served with Airmen while in Iraq and they faced some of the same dangers I did. Also, there are smart people in the Army too and there are jobs in the Army that take a high ASVAB score for you to obtain. It's no walk in the park to qualify for Special Forces, especially with having the pass the DLAB and going through two years of training. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

2010-05-21 23:50:18 +0000	You have to be really smart to join Army infantry. its not like marine infantry where anyone and everyone is an infantry man. So if i were you i would go ahead and make sure your eligile for the Air Force because i know a lot of people who had some weird problems and couldn't join the air ofrce but could join the army. If your really up for the challenge join Army ROTC. Plus its much easier to get a scholarship. you could always try out both if you really wanted to but i suggest Army ROTC. 2010-05-21 22:59:40 +0000	if you dont think that you will be happy in the AF, dont join. if you think that everyone in the AF just sits at a desk all day, keep in mind that there are also TACP, PJ, SERE, SF and lots of other people that get embedded with army and marine units. also all of us that work the flightline and have no desk and deploy just as often as the jets that go places. the army has people that sit at desks too. generalizing any branch of service is no way to get an opinion of what really happens. 2010-05-21 22:54:52 +0000	If you join the army your chance of dying (Currently with no open warfare between countries) is like 1%, and I guess compared to the air force that has a higher chance dying while driving to work, so yeah given that. BUT the air force has no special forces ground troops to speak of. So if you want to do special forces, any other branch would be better (And if you want to go pilot still the Army has more aircraft than any other branch of service) Little bit of trivia for you there.
