Nick
My friend said that you do not have to be a college graduate to go through OCS?
Now I am pretty sure that you have to have some kind of college degree before you can go into OCS. My friend is planning on going straight into the Army after he graduates highschool and plans to go through OCS (with no college degree). Who is right -- him or me?

your friend is INCORRECT.

Army OCS USED to accept candidates with at least 90 college credits but they have since stopped that.

Unless he is thinking WOFT? you CAN enter as a helicopter pilot candidiate straight from High School.. but you are NOT a commissioend Officer.. you would be a Warrant Officer.

Wrong, OCS graduates must have a degree, there are other ways to be an officer though like ROTC

You are correct:

"6. Four year BACCALAUREATE DEGREE is required – Submit transcripts which must state degree was awarded and contain final GPA - If transcript does not state degree was awarded also submit a copy of the degree certificate and Education Counselor's memorandum stating verification of degree."
https://www.hrc.army.mil/site/Active/opdistacc/OCS/COCS.htm
The Army is now requiring a password to view the OCS page. The page can be viewed cached on the internet:

The following documents are required as part of the OCS application. These requirements can be found in the governing Army Regulation AR 350-51 (U.S. Army Officer Candidate School). Please submit legible documents in the order of this check list as stated below. (Please submit in manila folder only with no dividers or binders)

1. OCS Personnel Information Sheet

2. General Officer endorsements (For Direct Select only). GO endorsements must be included as part of the packet. If a designated representative is submitting the endorsement; that should be stated in the document. Applicants that require a waiver are not eligible for general officer direct select.

3. Official photograph: Soldier must be in Class A uniform. Deployed soldiers can be in duty uniform.

4. DA Form 61 (Application for Appointment). There is space on this form for chain of command endorsements - Company (CO) & Battalion (BN) CO must use this space. USE OF THE AUTOMATED FORM IS ENCOURAGED. In item 41, (Remarks) , indicate any leadership positions (Captain of football/baseball/soccer teams, editor of school newspaper, etc) or awards, (honor graduate, outstanding athlete, etc) that you held/received in civilian life and date received. See NOTE below for branch choices.

5. Waivers. All waivers must be submitted on a DA Form 4187 signed by soldier and immediate CO. Multiple waiver requests may be consolidated on one DA Form 4187.

a. AGE – Age waiver if soldier will be 38 years old but has not reached their 40th birthday at time of application submission.

b. TIME IN SERVICE – Soldiers with 10 or more years active federal service must request a TIS waiver. The following must be stated: "I request a waiver of TIS in order to be considered for OCS. I understand that I may be required to retire after completing 20 years active Federal service and that I may not retire as a commissioned officer unless I have completed 10 years active Federal commissioned service."

c. OFFENSES - Soldiers who have had civil or military offenses must request a waiver. A simple statement such as "I request a waiver of the following offense(s) in order to be considered for OCS:" Indicate the offense, date and place it occurred and the punishment imposed. The applicant must submit a paragraph explaining circumstances of offense.

d. COMMISSIONED Warrant Service – Warrant Officers who are commissioned must request a waiver of commissioned service. A simple statement such as "I was commissioned on (date) and request a waiver in order to be eligible for OCS consideration."

6. Four year BACCALAUREATE DEGREE is required – Submit transcripts which must state degree was awarded and contain final GPA - If transcript does not state degree was awarded also submit a copy of the degree certificate and Education Counselor's memorandum stating verification of degree.

Maybe he's joining the National Guard, plans to go to college full time until he's close to having a degree?

The National Guard has a one weekend a month OCS program where it takes a total of 15 months to earn your commission. But you have to have at least 60 credits to start and be taking classes full time the whole time you are in.

You also aren't going to get promoted past Lieutenant until you have an actual degree.

Maybe your friend's recruiter told him he could just earn his degree while he served, and go to OCS once he had finished it. Technically true, but it can take 8 years to get a degree on Active Duty. IF you work at it...

I do not know of a single branch of the US services that does not require an undergrad degree to get into OCS. In time of war there have been battlefield commissions, but that hasn't occurred for years and I don't believe they allow that any longer.

I applied to OCS and the USAF Medical Corp while on active duty. I was seeking a commission as a medial readiness officer, but the competition was so bad that they upped the degree requirement to Masters Degree.

I think your friend is feeding you a line of BS.

hes right
but its hard
you have to be enlisted as a NCO and have a minimum of 90 college credits
so you might as well get the degree and go for OCS

Your friend will be denied entry because the military doesn't accept delusional crackheads.

In all seriousness, he is misinformed. You need to have at least a BA/BS degree to go straight into OCS as a civilian.

The only way I can see someone going to OCS without such a degree is if they were already enlisted and were accepted into some kind of enlisted commissioning program, such as the LDO program in the Navy.
