If a U.S. soldier killed an enemy in war, are they allowed to keep and use their weapon?

Title basically says it. Let's say if in the middle east, A U.S. Marine killed an insurgent, would that marine be able to take and use the insurgent's weapon?

The only time we take weapons is to dispose of it so the enemy can't keep using it against us. But to keep it for personal reasons, NO.
But in the heat of battle, your weapon jams or runs out of ammo, and there is another weapon laying there, then I'm picking it up to use until I can properly turn it in.

if they killed them and for some crazy reason they ran out of ammo with their own weapon, then they can use the dead insurgents weapon, but that is pretty unlikely now at this point of the war. we are not allowed to keep any weapons as "war trophies" though, usually we collect up weapons and turn them in to the Iraqi Army or Police.

Only while engaged in that same battle. You can not keep it afterward. Besides, you would not want any of junk they are carrying. Our weapons are far superior.

Just during the same battle, for example if I go out of ammo and the only weapon I can reach is the one of the dead enemy, but I can't keep it as a souvenir or as a war trophy.

He will take the weapon. (think of the alternative - weapons lying around) and use it if need be. You aren't supposed to use it, but if you have to, you have to.
