well the u.s has a very reasonable fear that countries like ,Iran,
Egypt ,Pakistan ,etc will use does nuclear wopens against them, or their allies.
"Plus, America are the only country to have ever actually used a nuke in combat. Isn't it a little hypocritical of them to tell other countries to get rid of theirs?"
what are you ,some kind of a hippie???
japan attacked the the u.s .
invading japan would have cost the lives of hundreds of thousands ,or millions of American soldiers ,and Japanese soldiers, and civilians.
what was the u.s supposed to drop on japan? flowers??

give me a break. America did not invade anyone it was that coward bush. also if you think that most Americans agree with anything that that idiot bush has done then you have not talked to many Americans. also most Americans don't give a damn if other countrys have nuclear power or even wepons to defend themselves. most of us think that they should take a nuclear missle and shove it up bush's ***.

This is going to be a fun topic until a foreign power or terrorist organization detonates a nuclear weapon on American soil... but the liberals will still stick to their guns.
Proactive vs. Reactive.
Proactive means we seek out the threat before it becomes full, reactive means people have to die before we take action. I'll take proactive, thanks.

Don't want to sound anti-American.... right, talk about a raving hypocrite.
All this means is the Brits are awake and typing.
We'd have to be crazy to want our enemies to get nukes.
Only a bunch of bigoted morons wouldn't understand that.
Jack Daniels, you should take your own advice, hypocrite.

The problem here is that America alone holds over half the world's wealth. & in this imperfect world, wealth = power. Consequently, America uses this power to bully other nations and decide what is right and what is wrong. If anyone objects, theyll b the next nation 2 be blasted flat to the ground.

I think the proper goal is total nuclear disarmament for ever country.
Unfortunately it seems impossible without a real world government.
But if the UN could decree it, without the veto of the few, (all nuclear powers) maybe it could be done.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, America became the world's only super power and people thought of it as the world's policeman.
A policeman is supposed to enforce the law, but not create it. But sadly, America has sort of assumed the role of policeman and law writer. It is not healthy and it is not good.

When you have rogue nations, who threaten the annihilation of their neighbors, then we certainly do have the right to object to them obtaining nuclear weapons. If these rogue nations decided to nuke you, would you want them having the capability to do so?
We dropped atomic weapons to end World War II. It was either that or lose a million men in the invasion of Japan, not to mention the Japanese casualties themselves. Perhaps you should read your world history before implying that we're some kind of monster nation who tosses nuclear weapons around like a baseball !!
For nations like Iran and North Korea to have nuclear weapons is truly a threat not only to our country, but others as well.
Did you know the very nation that we dropped nuclear weapons on is agreeing with us in regards to a nuclear armed N. Korea? I didn't see you including Japan in your criticism!!

You may not "want to sound anti-American" but you certainly do sound that way.
America has never challenged any civilized nation from obtaining Nukes. But those that openly make statements like "We want to be the catalyst for Armageddon" or "We will destroy Israel as soon as we are able to do so." I would hope the USA or someone tries to put road blocks in front of them to slow them down from acquiring these weapons.
You have to admit that anyone that will cut someones head off while praising God the whole time has issues. This is the culture of Iran and many other Muslim countries. Would you want people like this to have nuclear weapons? I think not.
The Muslim religion is one that is at the core of discontent and violence throughout the world. It should be a banned religion or at least shunned by the worlds population.

America likes to police the world and they should just worry about their own gun crimes and drug problems instead of what goes on in other countries, if the worlds an imperfect place then the problem starts with America.

For just one example, when the U.S. built these weapons, was response to another country ( Russia) that had them. Second example, yes we used it to end a world war. But we have never used it offensively to threaten another country. Iran on the other hand has threatened to destroy Israel. Rogue nations that have not a scrap of peaceful intentions should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. The same goes for North Korea. That country cannot even feed its own people and wants to spend money on nuclear weapons. last of all, the last time I checked the United nations voted against these two countries to have nuclear weapons. it was not just the U.S. Are you even thinking of using the logic that if the U.S. used nuclear weapons then everyone should have them ? Maybe peace should be the worlds right to dictate that no rogue countries should have them to destroy peace.

Roo,
I guess you would have perferred the alternative, the Germans and Japanese having the nuclear weapons instead? Think before you write.
Oh, and as the only remaining superpower other countries look to our guidnace on nuclear weapons....it kinda makes other rational countries a little nervous when rogue governments bent on the destruction of another country start defying security council resolutions and nuclear weapons inspections.....

i am not american, but i am against the fact that so many countries have nuclear weapons, because if every other country had access to nuclear weapons then we are inviting the third world war, and that is not good for all of us. the way america is dealing with this, i am not in favor with, because no one gave them the right to be the high council of the world, after all look at Iraq. that was a bad move from america, bring war, wreak havoc, and profit! how sick is that?

Cant believe the facist small minded responses to this, eg. America is somehow preventing trouble by having nuclear weapons, how dumb is that. American foreign policy patently represents the biggest threat to the security of us all.
I am sure most US citizens are of sound mind and disagree with US foreign policy but the state apparatus is an international joke.

I am an American citizen and a military veteran. To answer your questions...
1. America has no right to unilaterally tell other countries what to do. However, you might want to research nuclear non-proliferation treaties; The United States is not the only party to these treaties. It is not hypocrisy...it is the US asking other countries to honor the treaties that they signed...and in some cases...insisted on.
2. The US has a formidable arsenal of weapons left over from a time when they were needed to discourage the USSR and China from wars of conquest. Under current treaties with our friend Russia, we are dismantling a large percentage of those weapons. Additionally, as a result of the actions of President Clinton, many weapons were left unmaintained and no longer function.
3. The US used two weapons to end an unprovoked, unwanted, and devastating war against an implacable enemy who attacked us 30 minutes before their declaration of war was delivered, killing 3000 US servicemen in ONE of the three attacks of that morning. The weapons were used to convince the Japanese to surrender after they were offered a nuke free chance to surrender--to which they responded with an oath to NEVER end the war that they started. And we have never used a nuke in anger since those days. And that was 62 years ago...don't judge modern Americans for an action so long ago.

You're totally right. We don't have the right to get into anybody's business. I miss the day's when we only got into wars and stuff because we were needed to help others, not just cuz we think we're the moral police of the world. I'm an American, born and bred, and I know we're just a country of hypocrits and capitalists.

Everyone has an inherent right to defend themselves,so in theory it would be fair to say that everyone can have nukes but if a country threatens to wipe another one of the face of the earth as soon as they have the nuclear capability like Iran have then maybe we should consider stopping them but diplomacy has to be used first doesn't it?
