I use to do this too...my hubby says I got it from my father's side. My grandmother is a worry-wort and complains about everything. I have to tell you that as soon as my hubby put 2 and 2 together and he started calling me Cleda Faye (my grandmother's name) I learned to control my senseless nagging and complaining. Sounds like your hubby inherited it...by listening to his family nag and complain all the time. Try talking to him about it!

How long have you been married? He may not be doing it intentionally, but on the other hand he might get some sort of pleasure out of complaining. His whole family? Limit your contact. Too much can bring a person down.

Sometimes people like to have the magnifying glass on everyone else so that it will take the focus of of themselves. ?How would that person feel if suddenly the magnifying glass was turned on them? Also attempt to point it out to the person (in a non threatening way) Also tell them to notice when someone in their family is doing it. They may want to correct this negative behavior themselves. (cause remember you can never change anyone, they would only resent you)

My FIL and SIL do the same thing! I think with FIL it's the only time he is happy is when he's complaining and with SIL she thinks it will get her attention. I just ignore them both, but not rudely. I just don't respond to their complaints.

My dad complains about EVERYTHING i do..
"Jaziee, you missed a spot while vacuuming"
Arrrgh!!

My mum once ironed his shirt, he said it wasnt good enough, so he ironed it himself, but he didnt realise the iron was unplugged & he had been standing there for 10 minutes "ironing" & said he did a better job then her.
Mum still laughs about to this day.

It is easy for some people to complain all the time. Ya know putting others down to make yourself feel better. Try having a heart to heart with your husband about this. Tell him that it's wearing you down. Since he's been around this kind of behavior all of his life he may not even realize he's doing it.

Could be lack of attention.. or everything has to be the focus on them. If they dont get it, then they would create problems.

Men do that in general though.. its normal.. you have to let it go in one ear and out the other... dont try to analyze it.. it makes your head spin!

Sounds like that's how he was raised and how he learned to communicate, no? Perfection is so hard to come by!

If you don't like the complaining, can you reply to him with honest compliments and positive, encouraging words? You don't have to adopt their behavior. He saw something in you that attracted him to you. Can you ask him how he would like whatever he's complaining about to be instead of how it is? Can you get him to laugh? Can you apologize if he's right to complain about something you could have done better? Can you praise God for him just the way he is? You saw something in him that attracted you, too, right?

Because they are miserable themselves. That is all they know how to do. My ex husband and his family was the same way. If they weren't complaining about something then they weren't happy. That is why he is my ex! Thank God!

they're not happy with their own lives and look for things to complain about to make themselves feel better about themselves and their mediocre life. These are the same people that look fro flaws in others and take great satisfaction in pointing them out, both to the person and behind their back.

Kind of like why Jerry Springer's show is successful.
