I'm not gay, but it's my place to judge someone who is for wanting to get married. It's not the government's either!

Legalize it! I'm Catholic, and I still say legalize it. People deserve to have that right, no matter who it is with, as long as they love them. Marriage is a major commitment of love, and means a lot to many people. If gay people want to get married, they should have that right!

Negative. Marriage was, is and should be between ONE man and ONE woman. No other combination is acceptable to me or to God.

I think it should be legalized. I'm not gay, but we're all human, and humans have a right to love.

I've seen heterosexual couples abuse the privilege of marriage for insurance, money, greed, benefits, etc. I've seen many heterosexual couples ruining the sanction of marriage through affairs, lies, etc. So I'm amazed at people still bringing up the morality issues. I'm completely okay with it and have no problems. I've seen homosexual relationships survive and outlast most marriages that I have seen. They deserve any benefits from a marriage that a normal heterosexual can as they are Americans themselves. I truly believe someday it will be. It may not be called a "marriage" but a legal partnership that has every benefit a marriage does.

We are supposed to be free in America so to stop two American citizens from choosing to make their bond "Official" should be unconstitutional. For the folks that say its a sin, marriage is a legal institution and does not always have to be done before God. It can be done at a court house where paperwork is signed just to legalize the couples bond.. or just so that they can be taxed together or be admitted as next of kin if one where to be in an accident etc.. things that every American citizen should have access to regardless of their sexual orientation.

I'm indifferent. However, I do find it interesting that in countries where same-sex marriage is legal, the vast majority of same-sex couples do not marry.

Sorry, but I am a Christian so I think that legalizing same-sex marriage is wrong. It is a sin. Marriage should never be between people of the same sex. To me it's just plain ridiculous and abominable. I find it as disgusting as bestiality.

A marriage is between a man and a woman. Why not call the same sex - committment something else - give it another name - but with the same meaning. Same sex Committment - all the same laws/rights and rules as a married couplebut with a different title.

Do it! I'm not homosexual, but I don't want the government interferring in the private matters of citizens. I believe in equal rights and I believe that two persons of the same sex should have the same protections under the law as everyone else.

It is ok with me, but not for me. Whether our God forbids it or not is not my call and not everyone believes in God, so why should they have to abide by God's laws that marriage is for one man and one woman? Where is free will there?

I am all for it. It provides more funds to the state. It gives same sex parents more stability in raising their kids. And the list of benefits goes on and on.
For all of you who are opposed to this because of religion, remember that there is a thing called separation of church and state. For those that don't know this is "a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other".
No, I am not gay, I am married to a woman. I do have many gay friends, and it hurts to see them suffer because of this.

It's a quandary. If it were just an expression of emotional commitment without certain financial benefits, then I would be for it. But the whole reason for the push is to recognize gay marriage as equal in every way to heterosexual marriage for financial reasons. I just can't accept that. I don't believe two men should be able to adopt children as easily as a stable heterosexual couple - I think children need both genders as role models. I don't think federal employees should have health insurance benefits and such for their gay spouses because I don't think one of them needs to stay home to raise the kids (because that just does not naturally occur in a gay couple). But I do believe a gay "spouse" should have the same rights when a loved one is in the hospital or in death (in terms of inheriting shared property).

Well let me answer your question with a few questions:
How do you feel about slavery? There was a time in this country when slavery was seen as being okay but after the American Civil War, the reconstruction Amendment were created to correct what was wrong, the violation of human rights and the inequality of others.
How do you feel about women having the right to vote? At one time, it was seen as okay for women to be treated as second class citizens. Even after the 14th Amendment was created, people said that section 2 of the Amendment didn't include women in it and the right to vote. Even when the 15th Amendment was made and gave the right to vote regardless of race, it still didn't include women. It wasn't until almost 50 years later when the 19th Amendment was created that they had the right to vote because of it being seen that by not giving women the right to vote was a violation of their rights and it could be seen as inequality in a country that believes in equal rights.
By not allowing same sex marriages is in violation of their rights. There was a time when people looked down on people of different races getting married. It is 2010, it is time for such inequalities to stop.
