job transferred me to another state. fired after 4 weeks. do i file for UI in my new state or old one?
I made more before they transferred me. would my new state go off of what i made before or just recently. i realy need the max amount while waiting for another job to come through.
File in the state where you are residing now. You will give them the details of your company, the intra-company transfer, dates of employment, etc. The state will handle the interstate claim. Since it is all the same company, it might not take as long as some interstate claims can take. You should not have any problem at all. Your benefit amount is based on the previous 12 months of earnings, so the fact you made more before the transfer is good for you. Basically, your unemployment is going to be based on what you made prior to the transfer since one month's pay doesn't affect the year's total too heavily.
Did your company pay for your move when they transferred you? You might see an attorney to find out if you could take action to get your moving expenses, or make them pay for you to return to your 'home' or other action. Worth a try this time.
And you do NOT 'wait' for another job to come through! Over 31 million Americans are desperately searching for work these days. The real unemployment rate was 22.5% in September and is rising again. Competition for jobs is extreme. You must be very proactive about getting another job in a hurry. Almost all states' unemployment insurance funds are broke, and the states are broke, and they are borrowing money from the feds to pay benes - but of course, the federal govt is broke Big-Time. Don't count on unemployment to keep you going very long. The whole system could bloody well collapse. Hurry up and find work!
WOW!!! That sucks big time!! Sounds to me like somebody at your original office didn't have the testosterone to do the job of letting you go themselves, so they sent you away, thinking they would never have to deal with you again.
Unemployment can be a tricky thing. The best thing I can tell you to do is contact the office in your original state, and let them know what happened. They can tell you what to do from there. Sorry to hear about you losing your job. Take care and best of luck!
