is there anything here that is against any law? 10 points. florida state?
my friend asked me if i can sub for him at a music center teaching little kids how to play clarinet. so i did.
the man told me he would pay me 10 bucks an hour.
weird thing is he didnt make me sign an application or anything.
im 15.
i worked for about 9 hours, and my check was for 55 bucks.
he said it was roughly based on 10 bucks.
thats 5 and 1/2 hours.
can he get in trouble for not getting my info.?
or lying about the amount he would pay?
and he didnt tax me cause he didnt get my social sec. number.
i mean he doesnt even know if i am like a child molester.

i messaged my friend about it, and called him a lier.
because he..
based his organization on a christian comp. and lied to be when he canceled clarinet.
hes using a beginner player to teach, he called me a stinker and told me he was going to tell my parents and teachers, after he saw my message to the kid.

so now im angery. he said im mad cause he didnt hire me.
and im mad cause he cheated me.

could he get in troble?

i'm not sure but it's technically illegal to hire you for any job without alerting the government and im pretty sure you could get in trouble for that because the government doesnt get to take taxes out of your earnings. i think

Yea he could. But the only way he can is if you or someone else tells. If you do tell your still not going to get the money he owed you anyway. The police are probably going steal it from you and call it evidence.

Unfortunately you did not sign any agreement, so you wouldn't be able to prove anything. He shouldn't have done that, but it looks as if he took advantage of you because you're young. Next time make sure you sign documents. I'd say you're lucky you got money at all.

actually he can defiantly get in trouble tell your parents of the situation and if he doesn't resolve it satisfactory manner consider informing the authorities

Technically speaking, you probably have a law restricting the amount of hours you can work. Also, he also broke a law requiring information from an employee (a control over illegal Mexican or South American workers.)

He probably didn't tell the school you were subbing for him and took taxes out of your $90.00 even though he isn't permitted to do that, especially since he doesn't have your ss number.

Well you aren't allowed to allow a child under the age of 16 to work in New Jersey without sanctioned working papers.

You can try calling this guy and asking him. This is a state agency so you can probably report through here or they can get you to the appropriate party.

He paid by check?
Then yes you have proof of his crime. Any new hire needs to have a file opened, but a lot of places, especially tutoring servies, don't.
However, it sounds like you caused him problems already by informing the other kid.
Also, if you were to go to the extreme and take him to court, it will cost you more money than it's worth.
I'd just let it go at this point.
Some people just don't realize that when you mistreat an employee, it will cost more down the road since you likely won't reccommend that business and probably rip down any ad's he has up, and whatever other legal payback you can think of until your over him.

No, because since you didnt sign any forms he has the capability to lie and disieve you any way he pleases. That is why you must sign forms so you could make sure your getting your equal pay. This world is untrustworthy, and to just go by what a person says is not enough, unless you are related or know the person who is hiring you very well. This situation is similar to one I was in when I was selling something on Ebay.
I decided to trust someone who sent me an email that he wants pay for the item I was selling through Western Union, so when it was all said and done I sent him the item but he didnt send any money.

I know if school is in session you're legally only allowed to work 3hrs/day if you're 15. I'm not sure what it is when school isn't in session though.

I'm not sure about in the US, but in Canada, we have Employment Insurance, Canadian Pension Plan and Taxes come off of our paycheques, it equals about 30% of our pay. (higher if you go over a certain amount), however if you make less than $200 it doesn't get taken off.

I'm not sure if the US has rules like that, but it could be the cause. Since he didn't get your Social Security Number I'd think it would be harder to do.

The fact he's threatening you is a major red flag, I'd definitely tell your parents about it and they should be able to help you look into the proper course of action.

Reporting him to the better business bureau is a good idea. Also, hiring you without taking info is illegal. Too bad you didn't get the payment agreement on paper though. Also, it's illegal to employ you if you don't have a work permit, even if it's summer, because you already have a job--school.

Call your high school and find out who has authority over these kind of things. In California, an employer can get fined $500 a DAY for employing somebody under 18 without a work permit. So even if you don't get the money, you can stick it to 'em. Good luck!

PS there's nothing wrong with arguing with him. If he say's it's based at roughly $10/hour, take out a caluclator and show him it's roughly 6 bucks an hour, and tell him you want EXACTLY 10 bucks an hour. If you're not going to stickyour nose in his face somehow, he's not giving you any more money. Be a pest. Bother him!

1. the music center is probably not even covered by labor laws due to number of employees and gross revenues.
2. you are probably considered casual labor and unless you make more then $600.00 in a year the business does not have to even send you a 1099 for tax purposes.
3. it is legal to work at the age of 14 there are limits on the number of hours but again this business is very likely not even covered by FLSA which governs child labor.
4. so to answer the question as unhappy as it will make you they probably did nothing wrong and NO they probably won't be in any trouble.

I'm not sure if any of that is illegal. You agreed to do a task that he would pay you for. That is a verbal contract and is valid in most cases. The guy sounds like a dick, and he should be held responsible for letting you teach children with no formal education and without a background check. Even when you volunteer at a day care camp and don't get paid, they still have to do a background check. I would expose the guy who didn't pay you for the fraud he is. As long as you are honest about what happened, nothing will happen to you. This guy was negligent in taking care of other people's children and he exploited a minor (you) for his own gain.
