They already do paper work and background checks etc and ask for 2 forms of IDs...why do they want a copy of your driver license? What do they use it for or do with it?Is it just a copy for there own records?

If you're turning in an I-9 form, a driver's license is one of the valid forms of ID for establishing your identity (to prove you're legally able to work).

Your driver's license is the primary accepted for of ID for your company to have on file to use for everything from your eligibility to work, health insurance, and their liability when you operate their vehicles, machinery, etc. It's the "quick proof" when a third-party (government, insurer, etc.) asks for your ID proving your age, status, identity, etc., and it is a good policy to have a copy of each employee's DL in their employee file.
