Like Zap said, a Type A is a good personality fit. You've got to be very aggressive and extroverted at times, as well as eloquent and able to control your emotions. You also have to be intelligent and hard-working, and also must have a lot of patience.

You must be a bookworm and have some writing skills. Your personality counts some, but it really doesn't matter. It how much you can Bulls__t, another person, judge in this case. i think lawyers make a lot of money on other peoples problems, but who doesn't.

a good talker especially in arguments

L
Well you have to be a good talker, so language skills are imperative. Also you should be able to argue both sides of an argument convincingly.

For example: Did Barry Bonds cheat? You need to be able to argue yes he did and convince your friend. Then you need to be able to argue no he didn't and convince your other friend. If you can do that, and you get As in your English classes, then you have the aptitude to be a lawyer.

To be a lawyer, you have to be convinving and stubborn in a way so no one can trick into agreeing with them when you already have a mindset. You need to be very outgoing, not afraid of talking in front of big audiences. You have to be very cutthroat and speak up your mind without caring how people will react. Basically you have to be a straight forward, cold hearted *****.

Contrary to the opinions stated above, not all lawyers are self-centred evil people (try telling that to a human rights defence lawyer who earns less than a bin man to the solicitor who volunteers at the citizens’ advice centre). It is true that to be a successful lawyer you have to be academic, analytical, eloquent, hard working etc. But on top of this you have to possess a good measure of common sense and social aptitude.
