Is it legal in Sweden for employers to discriminate against applicants that don't speak Swedish?
I know it's common sense, but if I am capable of doing the job without talking, and can understand emergency Swedish, isn't there an EU law that prevents discrimination?

Discrimination laws in Sweden protect against gender/transgender, ethnic, religious/nonreligious, disability, sexual orientation and age discrimination. In other words, inherent or cultural qualities outside of someone's control. Language isn't one of them, and you are responsible for acquiring proper skills.

In Sweden, the most important thing with most jobs is your ability to fit in with coworkers and the work environment, not just your skills. This means always understanding what is going on around you (not just emergencies), and being able to interact with others in the working language. Yes, most Swedes speak excellent English. This doesn't mean they should have to speak it to you at work because you don't speak Swedish.

If you are capable of doing the job, likelihood is that so is someone else, that also speaks Swedish, making them the preferred choice. Learn Swedish.
