Local ordinances in Georgia are, by definition, misdemeanors, and are tried in the municipal and/or magistrate courts.

Punishment for most misdemeanors is up to 12 months in jail. You can get good time credit while in jail. Many jails only require you to serve half your sentence.

Fines for most are up to $1000, but can be as low as $300 for certain offenses.

It very much depends upon the mitigating circumstances and whether you have a previous record and your present financial circumstances.

I would have thought with no previous record it would be a financial penalty and your income and expenditure should dictate how much you will be fined.

If you went with the intention of stealing, or stole in a position of trust, you would expect a higher penalty.

In any event you will have a criminal record and that may hamper your future work prospects.

If a custodial or community sentence was being considered you should be advised by the court to seek legal advice whilst a report of your circumstances was being prepared.
