Has anyone ever heard of this company and/or does this job sound like it's legal as the employer states?
I am Rachel Mowen sales Manager of Joannas Jewellery Ltd.I have acquired your email address as a person who is actively involved in or is looking for an online business opportunity that would be like a part time job and compliment current earnings. We have been receiving orders from America, which we are unable to process payment completely since we do not have a payment receiving personnel in the state. We have decided to recruit payment officers online;hence we need a payment representatives in these areas.
So when you get these Money Orders/Certified Checks all you have to do is have them cashed and deduct your share (10%) and wire the rest down to anywhere our correspondent is in the world via (Western Union Money Transfer) or (Money Gram Money Transfer).

NOTE: This is not a money laundering operation and will not breach any law, each transfer will be processed according to your Country laws and taxes will be deducted from our part of the funds.

No, it's a scam. What will happen is that after awhile if not right away, these "payments" will bounce, but by that time you will have sent the 90% of the money on to them and you'll be out that much. Don't even THINK about going with them unless you have money you just want to throw away. They are NOT legit.

This is a scam plain and simple. Let me tell you how it works. The "money orders/certified checks are real, but were probably only bought for a dollar and changed. By the time you cash the check, take the money and wire it to them, you are stuck with a deficit in your account. Say they sent you 100 dollars, you are stuck owing the bank 99 plus a debit for the money you sent back to them (say at 90% that would be 90 dollars.) And the bank holds your responsible since you are responsible for what you put in your account. Let me tell you another thing, this scam is used by prisoners. My husband works in the risk management dpt at a bank and sees this stuff all the time. Mostly it's actually prisoners doing this stuff! He's run into lots of people who did this and went into thousands of dollars worth of debt. Came crying afterwards, but the bank holds them responsible! Stay away from this stuff, it is illegal and it is a scam.

This sounds like the 'Nigerian scam'. They need someone to deposit money and take a commission. But the check is a fake. Check out the attached links for some tips on these type of scams.

Bogus, bogus, bogus! Stay away.

Clue: "which we are unable to process payment completely since we do not have a payment receiving personnel in the state."

What are "payment receiving personnel" and why do they need to be located in the state.

They don't.

This is a scam.

You cash their checks, you keep a % and wire to rest to somewhere else.
Then, they put a stop payment on the check, you must return your 10% to the bank, PLUS what you wired to somewhere else, which you will never locate.
You have been royally f$^^%d!

It's money laundering and as such definitely illegal - whatever their website claims. Do a web search for 'scams' and 'transfers' and you'll find lots of information on such schemes.

They may be correct in stating that it is not a money laundering operation, but that's the only honest part of the whole letter. This is just a variation of the e-Bay or Craigslist scam, where the "out-of-country" person sends you a so called certified check or money order - you get to keep a percentage when you cash them (through your bank account, of course), then you send the balance to another person. The checks or money orders look legitimate until they hit the bank's security group a week or two later. At that point, they are returned as counterfeit, and guess who's on the hook for the full amount - YOU!! Of course, now you have sent a real money order or moneygram to someone who will have mysteriously disappeared.

If this was a legitimate company, they would be doing business in accordance with US laws, which requires them to get a business license, register with the IRS, International Trade bureau, etc.

Words to live by: IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY ISN'T
