Declining job contract extension amounts to resignation?
I am in the UK and on a job in which the contract gets renewed every few months. The current contract will be ending soon, but I have received a letter from the employer saying they are extending the contract by another few months. However, I do not want to extend it. So if I don't sign and return the contract extension letter, would it be equivalent to resigning from the job, or would it count as the job coming to an end due to the end of contract?
This depends on the conditions stipulated in the original contract. However it would be good practice to indicate to the employer in writing that you are not going to be extending the contract. They will probably be used as a reference at some point in your career and it is advisable to keep things professional and polite. For examples of resignation letters go to the website below.
