Constantly being smacked by my boss?
Question guys, I have been constantly being smacked upside the head by my boss every time I do something wrong at work ! To her it is a joking matter, I have all the incidents on videotape. I have been laughing it off for fear of her terminating me if she senses I may file a complaint against her since I know fora fact she did terminate someone when she sensed he was going to file a complaint. However it has been getting to me especially that she is now doing it in front of co-workers too ! I work for national BIG corporation. What are your suggestions ?

Your boss has clearly created a hostile environment, she's unprofessional and intimidating you. You don't deserve this.

As others have said - consult a labor lawyer; also I'd document in private the fact that she hit you-her name and title, date, time, place, reason, number of witnesses, witnesses, conversation leading up to her hitting you. Full description. Include the fact you'd appreciate it if she didn't hit you again-and E-mail her a copy.

If she hits you again-no argument, no counter-assault and don't laugh it off. Immediately calmly walk away and document again. Request a meeting with HR; also send a copy to HR, along with a copy of your original memo/documentation you sent to your boss. What you're now doing is creating a nice electronic history of her schoolyard behavior and utilizing the chain of command. Document your meeting and result with HR.

Run to your Dr. or ER and demand a prescription for, i.e. migrane headaches, anxiety caused by being physically assaulted. Make a copy of that/those prescription(s) before you fill it/them.

If HR doesn't resolve this problem, you go to the company President or CEO with copies of ALL of your documentations, including the one sent to HR.

No one, be they a CEO or Cleaning person, has the right to hit anyone. Parents don't even hit kids anymore, otherwise they'd be hauled off in handcuffs. How would she like it if someone hit her?

To her it's a joking matter? If she gets a subpoena to appear in court, and loses a day's pay, let's see how much she'll think of it as a joking matter-especially if you win and the company virtually pays you to not to have to work ever again.

Good luck. The pen's much mightier than the sword.

Definitely report her! That's assault!

I would report it immediately. I'd also tell her that she does not have the right to touch you and that it is very immature of her.

You might also talk to an attorney. She can not do that.

Of course the easiest solution would be to find another job.

You could also smack her back, but that would probably not go over very well. :-)

Get the best ambulance chaser you can find and do it right away! You could be retired! Don't waste a minute. Get to the phone and don't forget to mention the headaches the repeated blows have been causing. The mental stress and physical strain must be inconceivable. I'm sure you've over medicated yourself twice and almost died, and so on and so on. God must love you. Hardly anyone gets this kind of deal. Now get that ambulance chaser on the horn and see what you need to do.

You should definately talk to a reputable lawyer. It is never acceptable for an employer to lay a hand on any employee for any reason. The fact that its a big corporation makes no difference...other than the size of the lawsuit filed. You should talk to a lawyer before you quit or get fired, because in some states (like the "great" state of NJ), you can be fired at any time for any reason, without repercussions. And make sure YOU have it on tape, not just on the company's video recordings.

Sue that *****! That behavior is inappropriate. Take it to HR. Take it to her boss. Tell that ***** where to stick it and if legal counsel is the best, which it is sue the **** out of her.

Tell her in private and in a professional tone that you really don't like it and to please stop doing it. Then if she hits you again in front of co-workers tell her in front of those co-workers, again in a professional tone, that you would like her to not touch you - be honest, tell her she's embarrassing you. Just the act of telling her should bring her to consciousness that her behavior is unacceptable and unlawful. The fact that you let it happen the first time without saying anything may have her believing you like that type of attention. Yeah you have a good reason to sue or go to HR but I recommend trying the above first in order to reach a more peaceful resolution because suing will bring you its own grief.

Wow, you sure have a real claim for assault and battery, and with the amount you can get in compensation stop worrying about a crap job, your claim could be in the millions, no kidding.especially as it's on tape. bear in mind the ''human rights'' angle, that's worth a fortune on it's own.

If you work for a BIG corporation and you have tape of it go to your HR manager and let them know. almost all Big Companies have Open door policies which means if you go to HR your manager can not retaliate.

Talk to someone in HR first. That way if she tries to retaliate against you they will be aware of the situation. This is tricky though because managers always have a way of getting what they want... so if she really wanted to get rid of you she will probably try to dig up some kind of performance issue or whatever.

You could probably sue your boss for lots of money. That is NEVER right to be smacking people, even if they see it as a joke, because it's not a joke- this is serious.

Add: You should also talk to, I think it's called Human Resource...they should help- at least that's what I learned from typing up my mom's papers all the time while she's taking her tests on Human Resource Management!!

Go to HR and file a complaint. If you get fired get a lawyer. Before you do anything get a copy of the videotapes out of the office.
