What kind of guns can a US Civilian keep?
The "Right to bear arms" (2nd) amendment allows US Citizens to possess guns. But to what extent are the kinds of weaponry can we own? Would it be a simple 9mm pistol to an RPG? Could a citizen own a military grade weapon? I'm just curious.

Different States have different laws. California and the Northeastern States have the strictest laws. In Indiana any civilian can have suppressors (silencers), full-auto's (as long as they are Transferable Machine guns made before 1986), and Short Barreled Rifles (SBR's). On all class 3 items (as listed before), you must pay a $200 tax on them. Then you have to wait about 3 months for your purchase to be approved by the BATF. In Indiana you cannot have Short Barreled Shotguns. I think the limit is around 18 inches. You can't put a stock on a pistol. There is not limit on your magazine capacity. We can have any caliber. Those are about the only laws that Indiana has that differ from any other state.

As long as you have a permit for the so called 'dangerous weapons' you can own them. I must warn you that these permits are expensive and the weapons themselves aren't cheap either.

this again depends on what state you live in. California and Maryland have the strictest laws. Most states you can own any weapon as long as it is not a class 3 weapon, which means fully automatic. Where you have to be careful is the ammo laws. some states only allow clips that hold 8 rounds such as maryland. Also, if concealed you must be licensed, and not all states recognize other states conceal carry licenses.

Depends on the state. In Texas you can own pistols, rifles with barrels longer than 16", and shotguns with barrels longer than 18" without a permit. With a permit and a tax stamp you must keep with the weapon you can own rifles with barrels less than 16", shotguns with barrels less than 18", and any type of silencer. One permit and tax stamp per item.

If you're a class 3 firearms dealer or a member of a certain police department (not all police are permitted, more complex qualifications) you can own grenade launchers and fully automatic weapons. The catch here is that technically the department owns the weapons and you are a lessee of those items.

Some states have specific limits on how many rounds of ammunition can be in the weapon's magazine. In California the number can be no more than 10 rounds per magazine. Chicago, until recently banned all ownership of handguns and, if I'm not mistaken, made it cumbersome to own long arms.

you can arm yourself with all sorts of guns. its just if you can buy it or even find it and to get a permit for it. if you can find a place where they sell an RPG and get a permit for it . it seems like a crazy idea but its possible. but i dont see why you would want a RPG cant use it in public or carry it in public. or shoot it in a shooting range.

It's generally accepted that we can keep handguns, rifles and shotguns. They can be anything but automatic, which is no guns that fire many shots with 1 trigger pull.

Explosive type weapons are out. Only projectile weapons, as well as blades, clubs, and other human powered weapons.
