My ex wont give me my property back?

Me and my ex recently broke up, before that, I had a $300 phone I left with him because he was going to repair it for me, but then a few days later we broke up, and i asked nicely for my phone, but he is ignoring my emails. I would go to his house, but im having car trouble, he is known to steal , he just recently stole laptops. he has a record. Is there legally anything I can do to get my property back?

the phone works perfectly fine, he was just going to program it to another network for me. Is there a way I could get him in trouble for the laptops he stole for for having drugs in this posession? Also, How do i go about doing the claims court thing?

Sue in small claims court for the $300 + court costs, and then buy a new phone.

If you try to take him to court over this you're going to end up spending more money on a lawyer than a new phone. Give up, it was broken anyway, right?

Call the police explain the situation to them. It helps if you have proof that its your phone. if there is any damage to your phone you can sue him in small claims court.

If you can prove the phone is yours, you could call the police and ask them to reclaim it for you. Failing that, you could sue him in small claims court. You do not need a lawyer. The whole idea behind small claims courts is to minimize thecost of small claims on simple matters like this. Filing fees are generally very small.

I assume this is boyfriend and not ex husband. Easier that way. Send certified letter to him. But be prepared to go get it as you left it there. He doesn't have to wait on you by delivering it. Then to to small claims if he refuses to give back. He does not have to repair it. If doesn't work won't be worth much in this throw away electronics environment. Small price to pay to get rid if a loser. If that is all you list with a thief you are doing well. He will probably claim you gave it as a gift and didn't work.
