No, even full time employees do not have a legal right to vacation or sick time unless the employer wants to give it to them.

Can your employer do this? Check your contract. Don't have one? Look for anothe job.

In the US, generally, there is no right to vacation or sick pay. Even for full time employees.

As for the 401(k), they can do that too.

According to the U.S Labor Department, the Fair Labor Standards Act specifically states that vacation, sick time, and holiday pay is not required by law. It is simply established by agreement of the company and employee. Its a benefit, and they are not required to give you any.

They are not required to provide you with a 401k, if they do you are not required to participate in it. If you don't want to participate in the 401k simply ask HR to opt you out of it.

nope, this is why most employers hire more part-time employees then full-time so they don't have to pay benefits, etc.

There is no law in any state that requires any employer to provide vacation and/or sick time to any employees. Additionally, employers are permitted by case law to treat part time and full time employees differently.

There are not web pages that I know of that lists things that don't have laws.

I don't know what state you are from, so I can't find the site for you. However, I can tell you what to look for, so I will do that instead. Use a search engine and look for your states department of labor and industries. They should be able to provide you with any information you need to find. I recently had a similar question but could not find my exact question on the site, so I sent them an email and within one day I received a reply with everything I asked about!

As far as your question is concerned, no it is not illegal, and companies are not required to give you any vacation or sick days -paid or unpaid (I asked if it was legal for them to deny sick time off even if it was to be unpaid). Those are just company perks, and only the morons deny sick/vacation time; that was pretty much the major reason why many people left the company I was asking about.

I don't know too much about the 401k, so I can't answer you there. I'm sure that info is on the site.

This is a state-by-state situation. Federal law says that if you have less than 35 hours per week, your boss can deny you full benefits.

Taking 401(k) money out of your check is something you SHOULD have had to sign up in order to authorize. VERY CAREFULLY go over your employment papers for any kind of withdrawal authorization. If you cannot find it and don't recall signing it, I believe it is illegal to arbitrarily retain money for a retirement fund, because that is usually voluntary.

Now, don't get me wrong on this point... Taking retirement money out of your check on your behalf is NOT a bad thing - if you authorized it. It might even qualify as a good thing. But the boss cannot hold your money in escrow without some kind of signed authorization. Again, state law on the exact method of authorization for retirement funds will govern some of this. But usually, fed law governs employee pay handing for retirement funds.
