Do you think it should be law enforcemnts business to give out tickets if you're not wearing your seat belt?
I got pulled over for not wearing my seat belt and got a $40.00 ticket. I think this law really sucks. What crime are we breaking? If I don't want to wear a seat belt, I should not be fined for it. The risks I choose to make should be up to me. Why don't they start giving out tickets to everyone who eats at McDonalds or White Catles. You're endangering your life there also. This is just a money making scheme for the local governments and you know what...I'm just not going to pay it. I've had it with all these stupid laws. Let them spend their time chasing after real criminals.

By the way, it is the end of the month and that bring up the other question about police officers having to meet quotas for the month. I just think it sucks. I ususally do wear my seat belt, but this one time that I forgot to put it on and I get fined for it, no I do not think its right. They will have to drag me off to jail first before they get one cent from me.

Seat belt tickets are a cash cow for municipalities.

Virtually all of these summonses are paid without a court appearance because no points go on the driver's license.

I heard that New Hampshire is the only state left without a seat belt law!

(Stop giving me "thumbs down", you despicable bloodsucking pig cops. We, the people, are sick and tired of your parasitical tactics!)

Sadly, most States have seatbelt laws that have been widely publicized and if you choose to disobey the laws, then be ready to pay the fines, or petition the legislature in your state to have the law repealed.

If you don't pay the fine, in most States, your driver's license will be suspended and if you are picked up, you will go to jail and your vehicle will be impounded.

I agree with you, most States now it is not about breaking the law, it is a money-making operation. In my home State they even passed legislature in the House that $18 of every red light ticket in the State goes to Spinal Cord Research...WTF! Not to say it might not be a worthy cause, but who is to decide and when did giving tickets for an alleged criminal or traffic charge become a fundraiser? I have petitioned lawmakers in my state, but one or a few peoples rants mean nothing. Only hope is to tell all of your friends and relatives and encourage them to write their legislature (a good way is to type of the letter and all they have to do is include their name and the date...most people are lazy).

In the meantime, it is easier to just pay the fine.

The risks you take are not yours to choose. Who's going to carry the load if you become brain damaged or paralyzed? What's the big deal about putting on a seat belt? We have motorcyclists who refuse to wear helmets. We call them organ donors.

I used to feel the same way you did. I drive a truck for a living. A few years ago one of the drivers working for the same company I do, hit the guardrail on I 81 in West Virginia. No one knows if he fell asleep, or what happened. He was not wearing a seat belt. The impact with the guard rail knocked him out of the drivers seat. At this point, he was sitting on the floor. The truck had no driver, it crossed medium, into oncoming traffic and struck another truck head on, killing both truck drivers. While it's not as much of a factor in a car, they don't have the roomy cabs that trucks do, but it's a factor none the less, you cannot control your vehicle if you are no longer behind the wheel.
Also check your life insurance policy. I will bet anything there is a clause in there that if you are killed in a traffic accident, and you are found to not be wearing a seat belt, they won't pay. It's in mine.

I agree to a certain extent, meaning I feel they should be able to issue a warning, and if they are truly interested in the safety aspect of it, have you take a class on driver's safety.

Ah, yes, the "victimless crime" defense.

When you have your accident, instead of the seat belt keeping you in the car and your face off the windshield, you will be severely injured. Several firefighters will carefully extract you from the vehicle or from under it. A highly trained ambulance crew will keep your sorry battered body alive until you get to the emergency room. There a team of doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel will put you back together, more or less. Then you will tie up a hospital bed for weeks while you recover. The average cost to your community to rescue you and treat you will run about $150,000. You, of course, will not have enough, if any, insurance to pay for any of this. So your community get to pick up the tab for your thoughtless behavior. And of course, if you are permanently disabled, we get to take care of you for the rest of your miserable life.

Even if you could manage to die in the accident, your loss still effects your family. Who takes care of them? You like the idea of your family on welfare?

Driving a car means assuming responsibilities and obligations. If you are not willing to do that, don't drive.

i lost a close Friend 9 months ago in a truck V's car if he had his seat belt on he would have survived. by not wearing one you put yourself at risk i think you need to grow up and think about things.you make me angry with that kind of attitude

i just thought i would add a little more so you understand what realy happens when you don't wear a seat belt.

my friend was 23 he died on his mum's birthday turning into his drive way he flew from the front of the car and out the back doors of the 4x4 his head was buried in the sand his younger brother tried digging him out he died on the seen in his 20 year old brothers arms his mum will never have another birthday.by you not wearing your seat belt puts you at risk of this happening to you. would you put a family member or friend through this because you have this attitude.god forbid this ever happens to you

You know I recently responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a 3 year old child that had to be transported to the hospital with multiple injuries along with her mother they were involved in a slow speed (less than 30 miles an hour combined) head on collision. That collision cost the government 18 man hours from law enforcement, EMS, Fire and rescue not to mention the burden it placed on society because we had to block off traffic to do our investigation. All because they were not wearing seat belts. Had they been wearing seat belts there was an 98% percent chance everyone involved would have walked away with out injury and I would have spent maybe an hour on scene and doing the report. Think about it.

you know i remember when the seat belt law was passed in my state they couldn't pull you over for it. If they pulled you over for speeding or something else and noticed you weren't wearing a seat belt then they could give you a ticket for $10.00. Now we can get pulled over just for not wearing it, and its a whole lot more than $10.00.
CRAZY CRAP!!!
