When you get arrested, any money you have will be taken, counted & put on an inventory sheet. It's usually done in your presence so that you can come back later & say that it was stolen. If you were passed out, drunk of under the influence of drugs, you might not remembering it happening. If you check, your signature is probably on an inventory sheet.

They have to inventory everything, so they take the money out and count it. You don't have an option. You'll get it back if/when you are released.

no they do not-absolutely!! they have the right to ask u to be "silent" and to handcuff you or anything like that if you are being resistent but you have your right of privacy IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A SEARCH WARRANT so MUCH LESS take out your money without telling you- you should do something about it!!

Not on arrest, but if you get booked into jail, then yes. They'll return the money on release, in the form of a check.

hmm....I don't see that the asker stated they took his money and did not return it. They must inventory everything on you at the time of arrest. Once you are arrested everything in your wallet must be inventoried and locked up...just like you.

It is counted in front of you and tagged in a property bag. If your arrest was due to a certain amount of drugs, it may be confiscated in the end.

They take it and inventory it, and hold it until you are released, and then it is all to be returned to you...
UNLESS
The money itself becomes evidence of a crime. Then it is held until the trial, and may or may not be returned depending on the outcome and the particular crime.
