A felony on your record will keep you from becoming a police officer.The main thing is that any convicted felon cannot carry a firearm.

What Michael said but change it from your word of CHARGE to CONVICTED.
Charges do not really count, convictions do.

Any felony crime. Any crime involving Domestic Violence. A Dishonorable Discharge from any branch of the military. Some states will disqualify you if you have committed certain levels of misdemeanor crimes.

A felony conviction will prevent you due to the fact you can not possess a firearm. As far as misdemeanors, that will vary depending on the department as each agency can establish their own requirements.
