what are the circumstances for reporting a stolen vehicle?
My dad co-signed for my car. My name and his name are both on the title. My friend asked me to be her roommate in her new apartment. I plan on moving in with her but my dad thinks other wise because he thinks its better if I live at home. I want to take the car with me when I move in there but my dad disagrees greatly. If im making the car payments and paying the insurance, can I take the car with me with out my dad reporting it stolen?
The ownership of the car is determined by the title, not by who signed the loan papers or who makes the payments. If it is your name on the title, it is your car. If it is his name it is his car.
You stated that the car is titled in both names, if this is the case then it is a civil matter. Meaning that if you take the car to work or school he can go get it without legal repercussions, just as you could do the same. Sorry.
