Criminal Justice, along with Sociology and/or some other touchy-feely courses.
You don't just get hired into such a unit. The agency may have only sworn officers in the unit, and to get there you would have to do a minimum amount of time on the street to even apply. If the agency has social workers and the like in the unit, you would need a BA at least in the field, and experience working with people.

They are police detectives.
If you want to do that, get a degree (it doesn't matter in what) from an accredited University, and keep your grades up.
Then become a police officer, spend 3-5 years (at least) in Uniform Patrol learning how to be a cop, and then apply for a promotion or transfer into an open Detective's position.
