When a person is arrested, they go into what is called arraignment court the next business day. If you are arrested Sunday through Thursday, this will happen the next morning. Arrested on Friday or Saturday and you will have to wait for court to open on Monday morning.
During arraignment, the Judge reads the formal charge and asks how do you plead? The only acceptable answer is "Not guilty". Guilty or Nolo Contendre can be done at a pretrial conference, but not at arraignment. At that point, the Judge will set, raise or deny bail.
Providing you or someone who trusts you will post the bond, a background check is run ( to check for any outstanding warrants of arrest). Providing you are not wanted in any other locality or jurisdiction, you will be on your way home by that afternoon.
