how far can police scanners detect?

I was driving, and was apparently going 51 in a 35. I was pulled over right behind a speed limit sign reading 50 MPH, but the officer said that he clocked me at 1000 feet. Can they really go that far?

no not at all.. my mom is a cop and when you get to court you let the judge know if he clocked you in 1000 feet away why did it take him soo long to pull you over?? why would he let you ride that long? police are assholes anyway. around a certain time of the month they have to meet the quote if not they get in trouble..also is yur driving record clean. or are you known for speeding?

Yes. And most LIDAR/RADAR guns have a display on them that tells you exactly how far away the target is.

You're not talking about a scanner, you're talking about either a RADAR or LIDAR unit.
And yes, they can most certainly go that far.

Yes. They can clock a person much further than just 1,000 feet.
