Can anyone tell me what kind of questions they ask? I've never done anything too bad but I've done very stupid things as a teenager. And I know one of those things might disqualify me but I keep hearing different stories about it. I'm a good person and I know I would do the right thing now but my past might affect me.

They ask the basic questions on the polygraph, about the application, if you lied on your application or during your interviews, if you have ever stolen anything, etc.
The best thing to do is to answer the questions honestly, and if they get an answer that shows deception, they will ask you about it. In more detail. If you feel that your past my make you ineligible for employment, then I would tell the recruiter what you have done, and let them advise you if you should continue or if it will prevent you from being hired.
I wouldn't lie during any part of the application process, because it can result in you not only being fired, but facing criminal charges for your deception in the application process.

The worst that can happen is they say no and it will most likely be through mail - but ive heard if your just honest than you'll be good - not every police officer was a do-gooder who never made any mistakes in his/her life

Maybe what you did will come up and disqualify you. For sure, lying on an application or interview will disqualify you. Most agencies will let a lot of juvenile stuff get by, but none of them will hire someone who lies about it.

I would imagine that the testing would be fairly thorough. My mom applied to be a dispatcher with our local PD, and she said they were very in-depth.
However, as long as you honestly believe you haven't done anything too bad, you ought to be fine. The lie detector test measures relative levels of stress, as measured by pulse, perspiration, etc.
