MatterOfFact	Tasers are misused. They were originally designed to be less brutal than traditional methods. If a police officer was being physically threatened by a suspect--say by a knife or a baseball bat--he would use a taser rather than shoot him. Using a taser carries some risk of death, but it is much less dangerous than using a firearm. But now they've ended up being used by some officers and departments any time someone resists arrest, even if there is little or no danger to the officer. There needs to be some kind of national standard on when it is appropriate to use a taser and when it is not. I don't know the full circumstances of this child's death, but if he was merely resisting arrest, rather than attempting to harm the officers, than the taser was misused. I don't support banning the use of tasers on minors entirely, though. If a teenager is waving a knife at someone, the police will need to do something to stop him, and hitting him with a taser is better than shooting him. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

Bamboo Charcoal Extract	Thank You for posting this question. I just posted a question to police officers regarding their use of tasers that result in death for teenagers and the elderly. I just read this article and was like that's it! I'm so angry that they're allowed to kill us with tasers and get away with this crap. They truly do get away with brutality and violence when it isn't even merited! They also tasered a pregnant woman in a station because she didn't listen to them! Not because she was threatening them in some way! Tasers are classified an non-life threatening but I beg to differ. They killed a teen in my area at his workplace because he was cussing at his boss and the 17 year old boy died as well. Tasers need to be revoked from these nuts. Was this answer helpful to you? seniorchiefretired	You assume that this person was killed by a brutal police officer. You make an *** of U and Me when you assume. Tasers are the best least lethal force that can be applied by a police officer and are often used when an officer could just as easily have shot the suspect and been well within guidelines. Any police officer that carries a taser has had a taser used on them so they will know how it feels and maybe that will deter them from using them just for grins. If that child died because of being tasered, I assure you, the officer that used the taser will be second guessing himself for a long time to come. Nobody does the thankless job of being an officer except to provide service to thier fellow man, they sure don't do it for the pay. Until you have walked a mile in thier shoes, you should just keep you whiny mouth shut unless you are thanking them for the job they do. It's peopple like you who whine about how mean and bad police are, until you need one, then you whine because they weren't there fast enough or didn't prevent what happened to you in the first place. ornery and mean	This situation has just been reported ... the investigation has barely started, and people are already reaching the conclusion that the police over-reacted? He was combative with the police, that much was in the article! What will an autopsy discover? A previously unknown heart defect? Intoxication? Drugs? We do not know! What other options were available to the officer? A baton? Even using 100% approved and known to be non-lethal techniques, there is a small chance that this particular person might die! Pepper spray? Some people are very allergic to capsium (the active ingredient in pepper spray) The teen might still have died! Hand to hand combat? Some submission holds can lead to death in very extreme cases! Let's not even consider a firearm! According to the article I read, the officers recognized that the teen was having an "exceptional reaction" to the taser and called for medical personnel quickly. Sometimes there is no "good resolution" to a situation, not the fault of the offender, or the officer, or the department involved! Racist? PLEASE! Falafel & Loofah Aficionado	Post a link to the article please. Police only use these generally-considered "non-lethal" weapons as a means of self defense. IF the kid attacked the police officer, than he got what he should have expected. It's a shame, but if you attack a cop, you can expect them to defend themselves. Was this answer helpful to you?
