lowjoy	Hanging or killing them by other means, does not solve anything, but they should get life and make it as tough as they possibly could. But that is the biggest fault in this Country now because there is not one who serves the full term these days, and even for anything, and that is the mistake they have made over the past years. There has been some horrific murders over the past years, and after about twelve ot thirteen years they are let out. If any person kills another, then life should mean life. fivetoze	well, it is the ultimate deterrent, and with advances in DNA, weremore than likely getting the right guy... but thats not good enough. our history is full of travesties of justice.... however, presently, there is no real deterrent to the ardent criminal, intent on getting the job done. so, instead of mollycoddling them, (as we do) lets have a return to the good old days... we took the Falkland Islands back, so lets put em to use. its got a garrison, and is surrounded by hostile open waters, on the edge of the world, 2000 miles from argentina. im not suggesting we put them in port stanley, or anywhere thats populated. look on google earth, theres a few suitable islands... send em there. and they work, or they die. Idealist	No and I hope there never will be a time when it is brought back. There are too many mistakes, too many openings for abuse of the system and to me it doesn't seem any stronger a deterrent than a true life sentence. The only strong argument I've heard in favour of capital punishment is a cost cutting one but I don't like anyones life to have a price tag put on it. I agree with Tedward up above, life should mean life and prisons should be alot tougher. The focus of British prisons should be on reform and punishment. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

Mr Sceptic	I can't help thinking that if this horrendous rape carried the death penalty, they would have been more likely to kill her. I don't agree with the death penalty; It doesn't deter and I don't feel we have the right to take a life - but cases like this test my belief. Let's just hope and pray that the victim of their vile crime can recover and get on with her life. It's a pity that some people's focus is the nationality of the criminal - these men were no more representative of East European immigrants, than Harold Shipman and Fred West were representative of the British people.
