He isn't going to be able to fool a Psychologist or Psychiatrist for very long. They both have spent many years learning about human behavior and both are doctors in there field. I mean most homeless people cant even finish school so why would they be able to fool an expert in there field? If somehow they did trick them though they would be sectioned and put into a secure Psych ward and would receive counseling until they believed the homeless guy is fit enough to be discharged.

if he admitted himself into mental institutions he can keep coming back after he passes evaluations until he dies
otherwise he would only get arrested and brought in a few times because people wouldn't pay much attention to it anymore

Several times I have watched news reports where hospitals were being caught red-handed dropping patients off on skid row if they could not afford to pay. It is expensive to live in a hospital. If a person has no insurance, most hospitals want the patient out as soon as possible.

That's like saying 'if someone keeps stealing things, will they live in prison forever?'- of course they could. Mental health is so poorly understood he could probably copy other patient's symptoms and stay there even longer, as long as he's a talented actor and can control physical symptoms of anxiety or depression- he could use biofeedback to train himself into being stressed whenever he likes :)

jails r full of mentally ill people....a hospital will keep him until they think he can go...usually a day or two...they often drug them up and sent them out the door...sometimes hook them up with a social worker/case manager....

A person threatening suicide is taken into custody and commonly sent for a brief commitment for evaluation. Perhaps three days. Since people commonly make "gestures" or threats on multiple occasions before actually doing it, they will be evaluated over and over, since it is both required and proper to avoid liability.
