piss off somebody whom you think won't punch you in the face. if you press charges against him, what will you gain? after all he is your friend and forgive him for what he has done. the reason why he punched you was your fault anyway. not unless why you pissed off your friend was his fault and you just reacted. press charges if you think you will be having a deformed face all your life.
Battery is the correct answer. He would most likely end up in jail for the night and released on bond or ROR. Then he would go to court at a later date and the judge would decide any punishment. In some states if your convicted of Battery in the past the new charge becomes a Felony. Then the punishment can be more severe. If your friend is quick to anger and strikes you, perhaps find someone calmer and able to control himself.
