I need to know the resolution of an old murder?

I know where, when, how, etc., the name of the prime suspect and that his wife was questioned years later, after his death. Where do I go to find out what the final judgment was? Was he posthumously convicted or not?

Go to the clerk of the county it happened in, if a charge was filed it will be there and public record.

Well, no one is "posthumously convicted." Only actual live humans can be charged and tried. It may be easy or difficult to find out if the case ever came to any conclusions. Some old police records may be hard to find or may have been destroyed, either by accident like a flood or because enough time had run and they were allowed to destroy them under your state's law. You can ask the agency that had jurisdiction. It will help if you are family and have a real interest in finding out.
You can also go back to the newspapers when it happened and start following forward, looking for stories. It doesn't sound like there was ever a resolution.
