I would assume that the gun is on your property rather than just on your person. If it is on your property I am sure you could successfully argue that shooting the people attacking you was justified because there was no other way. If I was on the jury and all the evidence supported you reasons and explanation I would say not guilty of any criminal charges.

In my area you are allowed to use force, up to and including deadly force, to protect yourself or others against serious bodily harm or death. Deadly force is allowed to stop a home invasion also.

This can actually depend on the state, contrary to what some may think, all state laws are not the same on everything. There are states where it's even illegal to shoot someone who's invading your own home (imagine that craziness).
Most people would pull out the gun before the extreme beating started though so really.. it's kind of a moot point.
Either way, even if you're in state where that's acceptable, you'll end up in court dealing with lawyers for so long that you'll want to turn the gun on yourself lol.

I would look them in the eye and say that you will get me but I will get at least one of you before I go down.

This is the kind of thinking that gets people in trouble. The chances of you being armed, walking around, and having five thugs attack you without warning are about one in a billion. You have a better chance of being hit in the head by a meteor.
Also you would never have a chance to go for your gun even if this happened and one of the thugs would take your gun and leave you in a bloody heap.

Of course. However, be prepared to justify your shooting.
Sadly, nowadays, fists can be just as dangerous as guns, especially if there are more than 2 coming at you.
When I took my CCW course, we were told that if we feel that our life is threatened, we are authorized to discharge our weapon. However, when the threat is neutralized, we have to stop shooting.
Which simply means, if you have a 15 found clip and you got 8 shots off and took down 2 or 3 thugs and the rest went running, you can't shoot to kill if the immediate threat to your life is over.
The whole purpose to having a CCW is to protect yourself in your everyday life. If you pull your gun out, expect to use it. DO NOT use it as a scare tactic.

Stuff like that laws are different from state to state..in some cases yes it would be self defense,,but yet in others why would you be having a gun on you in the first place it would be intent to murder...it is a fine line when it comes to issues like this.
just like if someone broke into your home..you can't shoot the guy until he attacks you..if you can belive that one..

It would first depend on the law in your state. Most states that allow private citizens to conceal carry have the Castle Doctrine. Where it says "No Duty To Retreat." In which case, if you feel there is a threat to your life, you can respond with deadly force.
Of course you will have to defend this in a courtroom after you shoot someone.
Usually, the courts are more lenient on women using deadly force as they are more often than not the targets of said "thugs."
My best advice is to use deadly force as a last option.
I have been cornered by "thugs" before. It was like four people, no weapons on them and I thought they intended to rob me, but the mere sight of me flashing my 1911 scared them off.
