E-bay- Buyer Threatens to report me to police?
I recently sold a cosmetic item on e-bay, I am a power seller & have sold hundreds of these items & never one complaint.
I posted the item recorded delivery as I always do but a few days later I got a message from the buyer saying the item was fake & she wanted a refund otherwise she would leave me negative feedback.
As I have 100% positive feedback I did not want my reputation ruined by the buyer so I advised her she could return & I would refund on this occasion (then blocked her so she could not bid on my items again) she had zero stars & was a new user so I just thought she was out to scam me.
She returned the item & I refunded (plus postage costs to return back to me).
She then sent me a message saying she had not received a refund, I looked in my paypal account & sure enough she had been refunded so I printed the page off & sent her a copy & told her to check her paypal account as the refund had been issued.
She then said she was going to report me to trading standards & police.
What will the police do if she has already been refunded?
Additional Details
I just want to clarify that her reason for contacting the police is because she claims I am selling fake items, not for not refunding her.

Just ignore her - the police will definitely not be interested in this. Alternatively, send her a polite but firm email saying "Following our recent correspondence, I have attached again a copy of the payment confirmation from Paypal confirming payment to you of £xx. I trust this answers your query but however, if you wish to pursue this matter with the Police then I will be happy to provide the same documentation to them on request".

That would call her bluff and show her that you are not going to be bullied by her. Regarding the feedback thing - I now as a fellow ebayer it's horrible when you get a negative but I think most sensible people will see from your other feedback that this person is obviously a problem buyer and it won't put them off buying from you. Whilst as a seller you cannot leave negative feedback, you can always leave a positive with a negative comment! And, don't forget that you can always reply to her feedback comments if she leaves negative. However, tempting as it is to leave a nasty remark, keep it professional as your comments are a reflection on you. You sound like a very reputable seller and have done more than may other ebayers would do.

You need to beat her to the punch. Start grievance procedures with eBay, they can check your Paypal account and confirm that you sent the refund to her. This will mean that she cannot take action against you through eBay, and that if she leaves bad feedback claiming that you tried to rip her off then eBay will delete it as fraudulent.

Best to call up Paypal and ask them to confirm the refund first, though. If it's going into her bank account it can take several working days to arrive.

The police will not get involved over something so small. They don't have the time or the manpower to investigate complaints against eBay sellers so they don't. They will either refer her back to eBay or to Paypal. Of course since you'd already have opened a grievance procedure you will have the upper hand.

Trading Standards also will not become involved over such a small case. You would need to have multiple complaints open against you before they would investigate.

You're only concern is if your products actually are fake, in which case you've broken the law.

As long as you state you bought it and sold it on good faith then you have nothing to worry about. My missus sent a cheque for an item off ebay the cheque was cashed and the item never materialised.Police done sweet FA.

Ignore her. It's a civil matter and you refunded her, transaction is OVER. If she sends you further messages tell her you'll report her for harassment to ebay.

I dont think the police will be interested in this case.If they do, all they hav to do is contact ur other customers to verify ur goods are genuine. They will see her for what she is,for all u know she could hav a criminal record and they can check that up straight away.Call her bluff tell her to contact the police, tell her u hav the copy of the paypal account, which she knows and tell her by the time ur finished with her she'll never be able to buy another item on-line again. That should soften her cough for her.

It's nothing to do with the Police, but Trading Standards may investigate to see if you are selling fake items. If you are not you have nothing to worry about, but if you are they will prosecute you.

Then, as long as you weren't selling fake items, you have nothing to fear! It sounds as if you did everything correct and you did everything that was expected of you. I love Ebay though I've only started using it in the last year (both buying and selling some stuff), but these stories do worry me.

Keep all the correspondence, and the paypal bits and pieces just in case, I don't think you've done anything wrong at all. I hope your goods aren't fake though, or you may be in trouble, but from what you tell us they aren't. So, just ignore it, you've got nothing to worry about. However, if the woman opens another Ebay account, then she can bid again! From a seller's point of view, you have no protection from that. That is a huge problem that Ebay doesn't seem to be able to deal with.

You sound like a ligit seller. I can't answer exactly but I do know that ebay is savvy and when they investigate they will find you did no wrong. I would, however, alert ebay to this situation so they hear your side. They are familiar with probably every kind of fraud and nastiness that you can imagine! Don't lose any sleep over this. If you have 100 percent rating, buyers don't care about one complainer anyway!

I'll be honest with you in that if this report was received by me then I'd probably advise this woman to take it through the civil courts as it is more of a civil matter.

If you can prove that the item you sold isn't fake then that's the end of the matter.

I would contact ebay yourself and advise them of what has happened so that they have a record of what this buyer is doing.

From my own experience of using ebay, I doubt very mush that you as a power seller would jeopardise your reputation in this way. This is the sort of thing that can happen with certain ebay buyers who become disgruntled for one reason or another.

From what you've explained, you appear to have done everything you can to make amends for what may have been an honest mistake.

If you are a power seller you would know not to accept bids from people with no feedback, low feedback or negative feedback. How long had she been registered on E-bay? The only police who would be interested are the french perfume police but their record stinks.

They will tell her this is a matter for civil law and that the police cannot get involved.

Refer her to the resolution system on ebay and paypal.

Inform her it takes 5-10 business days for the bank to recieve the refund via pay pal. It is not instant.

She has no case in any court, the police wont even look into it. Ebay will sort it all out.

Quite simple really.
Are you selling fakes - if yes then you can be done.
If not then you have nothing to worry about.
