In car rental, 1 rental day is from the time that you pick the vehicle up, till the following day at the same time. eg: if you pick up the car at 13h00, the next day at 13h00 is one rental day. Anything under this time, is also considered one day (eg: if you keep the car for 4 hours, its still charged as one day). When you go over the time, it goes into the second day. Most companies have a grace period of 1 - 2 hours.
So basically, you will be fine if you return the vehicle earlier. We would suggest that you have an agent walk around the vehicle with you when you hand it in.

it depends on the what time you picked the vehicle up. The rental car companies work on a 24 hour clock. If you pick the car up at 11AM to get a one day charge you have to return the car by 11AM the following day. If you are one hour late you get charged 1/3 of the daily weekday rate. Once you go more than three hours after the 24 hours period you get charged for and extra day. If you picked the car up late in the evening you will be fine. if you go more than three hours after you picked up the car expect to pay for an extra day.
