Is there a way far the insurance company to find out if you were in a car accident.?
If there was a minor car accident (my fault) . Police came and callected the information of the drivers. If a choose to pay for the others guy's damages(150 bucks) and not involve my insurance company, so that he wouldn't claim it through my insurance, and my rates wouldn't go up. Would my insurance company ever find out about the accident if it wasn't claimed? Additional Details So insurance will know, but are they going to raise my rates even though nothing was claimed?
Some insurance companies will not give you their best rates unless you can prove that the accident(s) aren't your fault. They know and can find out everything. They have a secretive data base that will go over till when I was sixteen. I'm now 56. I was involved in an accident where my insurance company said that the other individual was involved in multiple nebulous claims. I knew something was fishy when she said that, "I hope you have good insurance." She also could have clearly avoided the collision and the investigation confirmed that. Insurance companies who run into them ( pun intended) merely ignore the claim and don't return phone calls, knowing fully well that if they are sued the claimant's credibility and history will be revealed and the claimant won't have a leg to stand on.
Pretty sure it goes on your record anyway. But if you don't bring your company into it then they won't increase your payments. I was involved in something similar but nothing happened with mine. You can always request your record if you're curious. Also you can take defensive driving every year to lower your rates (not just when you get a ticket)
I don't think it will raise your rates since there was no payout, but they can cancel your policy for not telling them there was a collision. It states in your policy contract that all losses must be reported to them. Insurance companies will use any excuse they can to drop you. I know, I work for one.
