Had a car crash in USA - Do I have to report it to my UK insurer?
Last week a lunatic smashed into my rental car after running a red light at an intersection in the USA. The other driver was at fault, which I can demonstrate via photographs. I was fully insured with the by the rental company and I am not intending on claiming for my injuries. The idiot who hit me was not insured. The rental company says I should be covered for the damage to the car, so do I need to inform my UK insurer? Will my premium go up?

Generally, in the US, if you are not at fault, your insurance will not go up if the data on your application is current and correct.

Like another poster stated, I doubt UK checks US for your driving records unless the rental company tries to double collect on the collision.

Nope, your insurers are only interested in claims you make in the UK. Rules and laws are totally different and there is no comparison one with t'other.

no, you do not have to tell the UK. Laws and rules are different and it has nothing to do with your UK policy. It happened in the USA and seems like everything was dealt with. Sorry to hear about your accident, I hope you were not hurt too badly. That is a thing we all deal with here in the USA uninsured drivers, horrible really.
