Can i extend my stay legally in the US by marriage when I only have a tourist visa?

2008-06-22 09:34:14 +0000	Yeah, you can get married with someone before your visa experies and instantly become a permanent resident of the state you are in, after 2 years almost you can file papers for removal of the conditions on your visa and after that start the process of becoming a US citizen. You just have to find someone that will marry you. I personally would not do it, because I believe in real love and I think marriage should be a one time thing since I do not believe in divorce, but life is not always easy and sometimes people have to do what they need to for a better life and there is nothing wrong with that. 2008-06-22 09:31:59 +0000	Your question is confusing, but the best answer is to go to an immigration office and ask what you need to do. It is much smarter to get the right answer than to assume one. However, I would recommend marrying before your tourist visa is expired - you can have a civil ceremony and have the traditional one later. Here in the US. Then file the I-130 at the local USCIS office. Do not leave the country without prior permission. You are changing your status (requesting to go from non-immigrant to immigrant) so they will not let you back in until that is resolved- however they will let you stay. In fact people who marry on a visitor visa are considered having lied on there applications. That will be considered when it comes time to apply for a green card.
