Call the US embassy in London and ask them or go on their website, you should be able to get this information without disclosing too much, its worth a try, but I think it will depend on the sort of crime he was involved in and if it was serious enough for them to be alerted when they swipe his passport, if your going on a short holiday you don't need a visa anyway, you can stay for three months on the visa waiver.

They should have no knowledge of your past, but the CIA has been spying on everybody, including us here in the UK.

If you phone the US Embassy your call will cost £1.20 per minute and will be answered by a call centre in Scotland who are unable to answer questions. If you email the Embassy you may after a week or so get a terse automated reply which basically says don't email us again or we will block your email address.
The visa waiver form you fill in on the plane asks if you have committed certain crimes. If you answer yes, you will not be allowed to enter the USA, if you answer no and are untruthful you may be pulled in for further questioning as the Dept. of Homeland Security there has access to more information about you than you think. All visitors to the USA are routinely fingerprinted. If you attempt to use the visa waiver programme when your criminal history excludes you then you are likely to be held in custody until you are returned to the UK at your own expense and will then most likely face a ban from entering the USA again.

No you are OK,They don't look for your crim record. When you are on the plane going to Florida the crew will give everybody aboard a green visa form for you to fill in,When you go through passport control you give it to the passport officer he will ask you why you are in the US you reply for a holiday they stamp your passport and stick the visa to your passport. That's all there is to it.Have a great Holiday..

yes, I went their to run the new york marathon in1990,on the plane we was given a form to fill in asking about where we was staying, how much money we was fetching into the USA,a bit further it asked if we had been members of any terrorist as...Badder Mienhoff,Red Brigade,I.R.A. ETA,PLO and so on...Wen we landed i was singled out, took to a room, and interrogated for about 1 hour, about why i had lied on the entry form,In the end when they could see they was getting no where, one man stood up and said they had documentary evidence that i was a member of Communist Party of Great Britain.I pointed out that I had been a member of the Communist party from April1970 to may 1970.I had payed 1months subscription and then left.I also pointed out that in the UK.it is a legitimate political party.hat was 1990,not much technology then,2007? just tell them you wont get in otherwise

yep you are for it. The immigration dept have full access to british criminal records.
If it was a minor crime they might overlook it but PLENTY of people get turned back every day.
If you take a chance, he might get through. Besides only HE will get turned away. He has been a bit silly about this, to be honest.
Those immingation people aren't too polite, either. They make me sick,. they're like nazis.
Anyway i bet you have made your mind up already, you are going so why ask us?
