Macedonian citizenship?

my mother is born in macedonia and migrated to australia at the age of 2 years with my grandparents. I was wondering if anyone would know if she is still a citizen, or has lost her citizenship? can you lose your citizenship in your country of birth? where can she go to find out?

Article 4
(1) Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia have citizenship of the Republic of Macedonia.
(2) A subject of the Republic of Macedonia may [n]either be deprived of citizenship, nor expelled or extradited to another state.
(3) Citizenship of the Republic of Macedonia is regulated by law.

According to one Macedonian embassy site:
Macedonia Nationality:
According to Macedonia Nationality Law, to be a Macedonian citizen, you should be:
1. A baby born in Macedonia, whose parent is a Macedonian or both parents are stateless
2. A person who has been married with a Macedonian for at least three years and also have stayed in Macedonia legally for at least one year
3. A stateless person, who has been in Macedonia legally for at least six years
4. A person with the Status of Refugees, who has been in Macedonia legally for at least six years

Presumably your mother is a citizen. She could contact the nearest consulate or embassy to determine with certainty. Whether you can acquire the citizenship is a matter to ask the consulate.

The "L" Word
|
You have to realize that Macedonia was part of Yugoslavia until 1991. She most likely had a Yugoslav passport. If she can prove that she was an ethnic Macedonian, than I am sure she can apply for citizenship with the Republic.
