Canada does not require a visa for entry however?
Canada does not require a visa from Singaporeans to enter Canada. However they may need people to have ties to Singapore, to prove that they will be returning before their stay expires. One of these proofs is money. Suppose the person from Singapore does not have that amount of money for the time that they want to stay in Canada? For example a young person lets say 21 years old, would not have a certain amount of funds and they may be in school or not even in school, but they got invited to come to Canada. How can that person prove that they will return to Singapore before their stay expires? What sort of ties can they bring forward? Can the person who invited them to come to Canada, provide some sort of statement then they will take care of the person while they are visiting Canada? And is this sufficient to satisfy the border services officer?

A roundtrip ticket is one way, usually, if you have to prove compelling ties to homeland, you or your Canadian friend might need to do further paperwork that the Canadian customs/border requires. go on line, the forms should be there, not only a RT ticket, but funds how to support yourself while in Canada and where you are staying, They determine length of stay. The Canadian friend can write a letter of sponsorship, just go to Canadian immigration/non immigration/tourist information. You , as the friend/sponsor may have to show proof you have funds to support your friend.

I'd think a round-trip ticket would be proof.

A roundtrip ticket and proof that immediate family members will remain residing in Singapore are a couple of good examples of home ties. If an immediate family member has willed their home or other property to you a copy of this legal document would also be a good tie.
