What is the checklist for adoption in Kentucky? does anyone know?
My husband and I can't have kids ourselves and we want to adopt next year! Does anyone know what I need to adopt and how long it might take?

How long do you have to have a job?
How long do you have to rent your home?
and is it cheaper to adopt in another state?

Please help I'm lost!!!

im in kentucky also. we are certified through our local foster agency to adopt ,...its not like adopting out of an adoption agency where you need 30,000 or more to adopt the baby...in foster care if a child was severly abused or somethingto get the parents rights taken away, then te child goes up for adoption and its free to you,. plusyou get a monthly income for the child its whole life which is like 600-800 a month ..we have been fostering 3 years and the baby we have is about to go up for adoption to us. he came into our home at 7 months and is almost two now, so it is a lengthy process and expected to take another 6mos to a year to complete as the actual adoption hasnt even began yet. if you are going to adopt out of an agency the wait will be long and you still need 6 mos to a year for it to go final....the thing you need are proof of income and bills so they know you can have money left over after payiing the bills. a steady job,own yourown house {no renting or apartments] be married at least two years unless single, all pets up to date on shots, all people in home over 18 have aa bkground check and fingerprined, smoke alarms over every bedroom, a window in childs bedroom, lockabe door knobs on childs bedroom and bathroom, we had to take training of 12 hours per year for foster care so if you got hat route you need that as well, a fire etinguisher in kitchen...saftey kt, basic things

they aren't really looking at job or house rental length. But stability, enough income to support yourselves and child, money to adopt unless from foster care. Adoption could take 6 months to 6 years depending on the age of child and where you are adopting from. You could adopt from another state but you must still go thru your state and get approved by them. To adopt you must pass a home study which is a series of interviews, background checks, personal references, medical and sometimes mental exams, fingerprinting, sometimes classes. I would call a lawyer first or find an adoption agency or social services to get you started. And while waiting for first appointment, start making copies of all social security cards, ID"S< car and renters or home owners and life insurance policies, marriage, divorce, birth certificates of all in household. Make a list of references.

I also live in Kentucky and we finalized our son's adoption last year. You need to contact a licensed adoption agency in the state and get a home study. You have to have a steady job for at least 6 months so they can verify that you have employment. I don't think there are any requirements about how long you have to be at your current residence. There isn't necessarily a cheaper state that I'm aware of. You cannot use facilitators if you live in KY. I got my home study through Adoption Assistance our of Danville. Julie Erwin is the director and they are wonderful to work with. They help families all over the state. Their website is http://www.adoptionassistance.com/. The fees were reasonable. Our son was born in TX and our total cost including travel and finalization was around $15,000. The home study was only 10%.
