Sorry, but I am atheist. You're religion doesn't fly wit me, therefore, neither does your reasoning (btw, I am NOT knocking christians. If you have peace in your religion, then more power to you!)
I believe that Jesus was a jerk with a MAJOR god-complex, which probably resulted from all the BS they force fed him Joseph (ie: he was so screwed up BECAUSE of his so called "adoption")
If you don't think that Jesus is a jerk, then what do you think of this? (BTW- the whole "his ways are higher than our ways" thing just doesn't cut it)
http://yourgodisimaginary.com/i39.htm
ANY who... Even *IF* everything you say was true, your reasoning is STILL flawed. So there have been a few adoptions where everyone feels all hunky dory inside. No one is denying that. That still doesn't negate the fact that the majority of adoptions are unethical.

Yes but it was a secret at the time Otherwise Mary would have been stoned to death for having a kid outside of marriage, that was the custom back then

I guess you can say he was "adopted" but that doesn't mean that Joseph can't be called his father. He may not be his biological father (does that count with jesus?) but still he raised him, sorta, so i would at least call him a parent.

Jesus was born of immaculate conception, through Mary who was a virgin at the time of conception. In reality God who is a spirit walked among man thruough Jesus. After Jesus was crusified he went to be with his father in heaven as a spirit thus the holyghost.God sent his son to teach and die for are sins. God, Jesus and the holyghost are one and the same.

Gaia, I really love you right now!
Well, since everyone is using the bible to prove their point these days, I thought I'd give it a whack.
"The wicked snatch fatherless children from their mother's breasts, and take a poor man's baby as a pledge before they will loan him any money or grain." Job 24:9
I win! =D

Wow, that's reaching. I am personally not of the belief that he existed, but according to the bible, he was not adopted by Joseph. Back then they didn't have laws for things like that. If Mary was his mother, and Joseph was married to Mary, then Joseph was the dad.
You are a silly person, Ollie.

These answers are making me laugh SO DAMN HARD.
Ah, you people and your Bibles.
Jesus knew who his biological parents were the ENTIRE time when he was in the care of the Pharaohs. And then he ended up going BACK to his original people.
(Of course, adoption "then" wasn't done the same it is accomplished today, for those of you who are adoption hard-core institution right freaks. :P )
ETA: Serenity - good point. Whoops. Got my stories mixed up. Ah well, Lillie's answer still kicks a$$.

Are you serious? Now I think you are just reaching for someone to tell you how *wonderful* adoption is....I mean how can it be bad if Jesus was adopted (Which I don't believe BTW)
You win...Adoption if great...Nothing but rainbows, butterfly's and unicorn farts. Happy now. I hope so because that was hard for me to say!

No Jesus was not adopted it was Moses and Esther that were, but they were able to be with their blood families too
Jesus would not approve of separation and pain
People have totally taken the Spiritual adoption way out of context and are using it to justify human adoption

I won't be telling my kids that Jesus was an adoptee just to make them feel better. They will learn about him the same way I did.

How do you know Joseph was not his father? Did he submit to a DNA test?
ETA: Oh wait, I know, it's because they doctored up a phony birth certificate to erase God's name as the father, and inserted Joseph's name.
When Jesus had the audacity to insist that Joseph was not his father and that he wanted his original birth certifcate which proved God was his real father, he was promptly arrested and executed.
Moral of the story for adoptees: don't make too much noise about wanting to know your daddy.

He at least had his MOTHER.
And it WAS an open adoption.
I really don't believe Jesus would approve of taking babies from their mothers to re-gift to infertile couples, however.

If you believe what the bible says then Jesus had no earthly biological Father. How can it be adoption when there is no biological parent? I personally don't believe it and I think Mary figured out an AWESOME way to get out of being called a tramp.

You might appreciate this. I would cite my source, but I don't have one. So, whoever wrote this, thanks!
Mary and Joseph weren't married, Joseph wasn't Jesus' birthdad, so you have to wonder ...
What would happen if God, the Supreme Ruler of the Universe (and birth father) went to Catholic Charities requesting information on his son....
The year is 1999. The place...Catholic Charities of Greater Bethlehem...
"Hi, my name is God the Supreme Ruler of the Universe. About 2000 years ago, I fathered a son. I believe he was born some time in December. I would like to find out what happened to him and make myself available should he have any questions."
"How much money do have on you God? Because for a mere $1 million "donation" to Catholic Charities, you can sign a useless piece of paper with all your information on it that we have no intention of giving to your son should he contact us."
"Well, that sounds like a good deal. Let me get out my checkbook. Can you tell me anything about my son?"
"Oh, I'm sorry God. There is a chance that your son may have given up his own life for the good of mankind, but I'm not permitted by law to reveal that sort of information. But don't worry, you can just leave everything to me."
"Okay, sounds great."
MEANWHILE.....
"Hi, my name is Jesus. I was born 2000 years ago on December 25th in Bethlehem. I have re-risen from the dead with the sole purpose of searching out my birth father. Can you help me?"
"Well, Jesus, we here at Catholic Charities will do everything we can to help. How much money do you have on you?"
"Uh, some years ago I gave up my life for the good of mankind. Prior to that I lived a simple existence performing good deeds and miracles. Needless to say, my cash flow is minimal."
"Hmmmm, I see Jesus. No problem, we can put you on our installment plan. Once your first monthly check clears, I will journey all the way into the next room, open up the file cabinet, and pull your file. Then I will copy and send you five sheets of paper that contain vital medical information gathered 2000 years ago that basically serves no purpose as it has never been updated."
"Wow, that sounds great. But how will that information help me find my birth father?"
"It won't Jesus. But hopefully, that information will pacify you enough so that you won't bug the crap out of us anymore about this find-your-father thing. Although, there is an alternative. With a slight increase in your monthly payments, I will conduct the search for you because at 2000 years of age, you are too stupid to make decisions pertaining to your own life."
"Okay, that sounds terrific. So when you find him, you will forward the information so that I can contact him?"
"No. You cannot be trusted enough to contact your own father because it might disrupt his life. It is, however, completely acceptable for me, the almighty social worker, to disrupt his life on your behalf."
"Okay, that sounds great. Sign me up..."
Fortunately, God and his son Jesus were able to find each other thanks to the Greater Bethlehem Mutual Reunion Registry. They have started a support group and joined the fight for open records....

Mary was his mother and God was his father so I guess that makes Joseph his step-father? I don't think he received any money so it's not as though we could call him his foster father.

No.
Mary gave birth to him in a stable, God proclaimed him as His son all along, nobody sealed his records and altered his birth certificate, and in the end, he went back to His Daddy.
Nice try though.

Yes one could say that Jesus was "adopted" it wasn’t like the adoption perhaps one thinks of today, there were no papers; God didn’t give up his rights to Jesus. However Joseph was his earthly father he was the one that raised Jesus taught him the trade of being a wood worker he loved Jesus because he was his son just as much as the other children he and Mary later had. Jesus also knew and had relationship with his father God. Jesus loved both of his fathers.
In care of the Pharaohs? You are talking about Moses who also was technically was adopted in order to safe his life. Jesus was never in the care of the Pharaohs.
