Can I adopt a child?
I am 19 and am haveing problems conceiving a child of my own and have been told by many doctors that there is a great chance that I am infertile. My husband is 27, and we are both ready for children. Am I too young to adopt? What is the process for adoption, and how much can I expect it to cost me?

I am married to a man 8 years older than me because I love him. And yes we are ready for children although to some it may seem that I am too young. I have raised 2 of my brothers from birth and one cousin from birth, they are all now 5, 6, and 7 years old. So now I have decided that I want to raise my own.

I think you can but the countries you will be able to adopt from will be limited since most of them require for the adoptive parents to be 21 or 25 or a certain age older than the child. But that doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of countries for you to adopt from.
Good Luck.

contact some local agencies regarding a home study, that is the first step in adoption. They will be able to give you more detailed information on your state laws. In general, you need to be 21 and many agencies require that you be married anywhere from 1-3 years before you begin the process. You can expect it to cost anywhere from 20k -30k for a healthy newborn, less for a special needs child or an older child. You will get apprx 11k back the year after you adopt via tax credit.

good luck!

First go to a fertility specialist. They can check you out and put you on medication to help with any fertility issues. Stress also makes it harder for you to become pregnant. Take a vacation. It does not matter about either one of your ages. Everyone is ready at different times. I had to take fertility treatments when I was 18 to get pregnant for my son. I do not regret it. My second child, I did not need anything to become pregnant with her. We are still married 14 years later. Young motherhood does not always mean disaster.
You can try adoption but do it because you want a child and you want to help a child. Do not do it just because it is taking to long for you to conceive. It would be wonderful for you to do so as long as you are ready. If you do not have a lot of money you can adopt through Department of Children Services (DCF). You can maybe start off with Foster Care and see if that would help with your decision. Children are for life be sure it is what you want first because you cant change your mind later. Good Luck

From what I have heard, you need to be 21 years of age...but since you are married and that makes you emancipated it might be possible. Check your state's guidelines.

i hope everything works out for you. adoption agencies can usually help you through the often long process, but you will have to ask a professional.
best wishes

there might be ways for you to adopt. but please keep in mind that adoption costs thousands of dollars. the agency will be looking into EVERY aspect of your personal, financial, and work life. your home will be inspected. your friends and family questioned. etc.
in other words, it will take lots of time. so it wont likely happen just as soon as you decide you want to.

although you are legally allowed to adopt, you will have a really hard time finding an agency that will allow someone under 21 (and often times even older) adopt a child. You should try fertility treatments in the mean time because they can be very effective. Don't give up : )

i know that international adoption (especially from china) can cost a lot of money, but you have time to save.

Stop the Hate Love instead
I am afraid your too young. Most agencies/ countries require the parents to be at least 21 in order to adopt. Most international adoption sometimes require the PAP to be at least 25 sometimes older, like China where PAP must be at least 30. There might be some places that might allow a couple to adopt where one spouse is the age of requirement. But even with that you will be hard pressed to find anyone that will allow a 19 year old to adopt, despite that their spouse is of the age requirement. Also there are some places that require a married couple looking to adopt to have been married a certain amount of time, typical from what I have seen its 2 or 3 years.

How long have you been trying? If it’s less then a year I wouldn’t worry about it for now and just keep trying. If you’ve been trying for over a year you might look into fertility treatments if you don’t want to do those or they don’t work. Then you just may have to wait a couple of years to be able to start an adoption process. In the meantime you can research the different types of adoption and decided which would be best for you and your husband. Look at places you would consider adopting from and check out their adoption criteria.

Legally, you can adopt at 18 in most states, if not all. However, in practice, unless you are adopting a family member, a stepchild or the child of a very close friend, rarely will the judge approve it if one of the couple is under 21.

Personally, you should wait at least another year or two. But thats just me! If you know you and your beloved are ready, then go for it! i want to adopt when i am ready, too. but yes. I would deff. suggest trying for a bit longer. Adopting would be awesome, but wouldn't it just be even more awesome to have one of your own? Don't give up hope just yet! Good Luck!

I say wait a few years to show how committed you two are in your marriage. This is a huge plus. They will not let you adopt if you have been married a short time.

other than that, both of you should be free of any felony arrest.

be prepared it takes about an year from beginning to end... but could be longer.

That depends on many things. How long have you been TTC? The avg time is 6 months to a year for a healthy couple. What doctors have you seen? If you have both been thoroughly checked out by fertility specialists then you may want to go the adoption route, but there may also be medical interventions that can help you. At 19, I would say give it more time unless they have told you that you truly are infertile. I was told I had less than a 1% chance of concieving and carrying to term a healthy baby so we gave up. A few months later I got pregnant and we now have a healthy happy 2yo daughter. Good luck! Don't give up

different states and agencies have different rules. some say 21 and some say older. Expext to pay many thousands of dollars to adopt unless you go thru foster care. some states require you to be 10, 15 sometimes 20 years older than the child you plan to adopt.

adoption is very costly. and not only that, you might be too young. they look at everything, from your income to how well you live and would be able to take care of the child. This is because there are so many people who want to adopt, and they dont just want to give it to someone who is not able to support the child.

Most adoption agencies require that you be atleast 22 some are even higher than that and I have seen some that require you to have been married for a certain amount of time (anywhere from 2-5 years).

The cost of adoption ranges depending on whether it is a domestic or international adoption or whether it is a private adoption. I was looking at a website yesterday that said the cost for adoption can be anywhere from $5000 to $40,000.

Hope to have helped.

You must be 21 in most states and even older for international adoption.....if you have tried for more than a year, you need to start on infertility treatments....when you are 21, start the process if you still want to. Check your state's adoption policies in the mean time, as they are not always the same. It can take up to 2 + years to get a child, so you want to start as early as possible if this is your path.

In general you must be 21 years of age before even be considered a candidate for adopting or fostering a child. The actual process of adoption is much more complexed then simply be "old enough." There are some rare exceptions, which would be, someone under the age of 21 wanting to adopt their spouse's child/children.

I'd also add that, apart from legal considerations, adopting often (always?) comes with significantly more issues than having a child biologically (which certainly has enough of its own!) ... while a minimum "age" may or may not be terribly important, having some years of perspective and life experience under your belt will serve you well.
