Anyone adopted or looked into doing it internationally?

I would like to adopt in a few years from Latvia and I am wondering if anyone has looked into this specific country or internationally in general. If so, how long did it take for everything to go from start to finish? And how long were you required to stay in the country before leaving with your child?

Hello, My wife and I have adopted from Vietnam. The hole process took 18 months from start to finish. We use Children's Hope International. We went to Vietnam to pick up are child, it took 2 weeks in country and we only had to travel once. Our child was a 4 1/2 year old boy. He has been here with us for almost 2 years now and is adjusted quite well. Good Luck! Bryan and Nancy

Latvia does not look like an easy country to adopt from. From the US gov website about adopting from there the Latvia citizens don't favor international adoption. Its still possible but not in most cases. Its allowed if adopting large sibling groups (over 3 kids), children over 9 years old or with severe health problems.
It says stays are extended and the adoption cannot be completed until an orphan court determines that a parent/child bond has been formed. It doesn't say how that is determined but that it is case by case and each court will have different criteria. You'll be expected to have a home there (rent or own) during that time and you are given up to 6 months. It doesn't say what happens if no bond is made in that time.
The timeline listed says from shortly under a year to as much as 4 years to complete the adoption from Latvia.
Really unless you have a major connection to Latvia I would start to look into other places to adopt through.
