rustyjune84	No not another Vietnam, Vietnam is so different. Vietnam killed way more. The goals of each are different. The way are country thinks about the military is different too. Only 15 military personel died in December, so I don't see us running for our lives. In Vietnam we were trying to stop the spread of communism. In Iraq I'm not sure what we are doing. Leaving Vietnam we failed to stop the spread of communism. Leaving Iraq, I don't know what we would be failing or if we would be failing at all. Jake W	The NVA took over South Vietnam after the US withdrew. Ho Chi Minh said himself that had the United States stayed they would have won. In this situation, there is no "North Iraq" and no "North Iraq Army". The United States is attempting to stabilize the country before they withdral, in order to prevent another Vietnam. Whether or not you believe they're putting in "Pro American Government" doesn't change the fact that there is now an Iraq government, and hopefully when we leave a fully functional Iraqi army. Golden	no. totally different. vietnam saw a popular movement of the entire country. there were two sides, american and vietnamese. when us troops finally pulled out vietnam united again. the division was implemented by french and american interests only, the government of "South Vietnam" puppets only. in iraq there are several factions. there are several interested nations. at the very least there is sunni, shi'a, and kurds. many iraqi refugees live next door in syria, therefore syria has a serious interest. of course iran has a strong interest. saudi arabia shares a long border, marked in the past by squabbles over drilling rights. so this is a very different situation.
