Serious Sam
Will Prince Harry be now regarded as a weak soldier no that he is being protected from going to Iraq?
So now, while he is living his royal life of luxury his comrades will be under constant attack in Iraq. Typical British hypocracy.

Certainley Not. his presence would endanger other officiers in the field. I know he would want to go as everybody must realise and that there is no stigma in the fact that his senior command has said no.He has to follow orders what ever they are.If they had said yes he would have gone but the enermy would have made a serious effort to capture him

look, It is really simple, in the old days, you sent a noble off to war, and in the old days the troops weren't allowed to do anything to their commanding officer until he tried to turn on the charge of battle.
In todays terror campaingn style of fighting, nothing is organised, like, "Oh we will meet on this large and convient field and kill each other, I personally would not want to be in a troop with the prince because I knew that at every turn someone would be trying to kill him and that would be a shame if they succeed.
Peace

no not weak but as serving soldier he will lose respect. On the flip side of this serving families might think and rightly so that his life is worth more than other serving soldiers. If this is correct should members of the Royal house hold be allowed to serve in the military if they are not allowed to fully carry out their duties to their country as all other serving members do. In fact they give up a lot of there freedoms and rights as a British serviceman to serve in dangerous areas knowing full well the dangers they face when they sign on the dotted line, so should the royal house be except these?

No he wont be, its not his choice and everyone saying he should make the choice seems to forget that someone higher than him has made that decision. And like it or not being in the army means taking and following orders. He has been told dont go he has no right to question that because it was an ORDER made in the interest of keeping soldiers other than him safe. Cool he wants to go very admirable. But he is making far less fuss than everyone eles. Please people a little common sense and a lot of thought for the men that would have had to fight against such an obvious target. Keep safe all the guys over there in both iraq and afghanistan our thoughts are with you.

I think, if Prince Harry has regard for the safety of his men, he will understand why he cannot be sent to Iraq and his men will understand too. There is no need for him to lead a life of luxury. H e can still stay in army barracks and help with the training of more soldiers.

No, he showed he wanted to go. I'm sure his troop are glad he's not going. They would be a high profile target along with him.

No Prince Harry should not be regarded as a weak soldier as this decision has been decided not by him but by higher power. If he was given the choice he would go, especially after under going the officer training. I think the decision was made because if the Iraq's get wind of royal blood being posted there it could cause or risk fellow soldiers lives. I think it should be Prince Harry's choice though.

No doubt he will be given high honours for sitting on his backside. I know its not his decision, but for christs sake, what is going on. It shows complete weakness on the militarys decision. Lets wonder how a decision to keep him away from the frontline gives no morale boosting to other servicemen.....So the head of the British Army is happy to push soldiers on...But we must keep the German back !!

My first response to the question was to be "yes he would and should be regarded as a weak soldier" but this was based on my thoughts that a royal would never be allowed to be placed in a situation of any danger anyway. However, listening to news reports and turning these over in my mind I now feel that to send Prince Harry with his comrades would only considerably increase the danger to his troops. Right or wrong I really don't feel that it is worth taking this sort of risk.

I suspect that most if not all of his troop would have been killed as well as him if he had gone, why should they be made to suffer. Its not like he made the decision himself. At least now his troop will be under the same risks as others out there and not under a certain death sentance.

It is not a question of Prince Harry being regarded as weak, as the decision to deploy is clearly out of his hands. The problem is that how can both the Princes justify their role within the Armed Services if they are to be non-combatant. The cost of training young Officers is not cheap! The only people being protected are the senior military commanders and civil servants in Whitehall.

The MoD has proven once again that, being sat for too long in Whitehall leads to complete dislocation from the realities of being in the field Army. After a short visit by the CDS to Iraq last week, he obviously felt uncomfortable himself, and decided that it is an unsafe place to be. Fortunately the field Army under CDS command are trained to be in such places, in fact a soldiers one aim in life is to go into an operational environment, otherwise what is the point of training.

In the forces there is no such thing as 'peace time' only Operations, and preparation for Operations / war. Harry owes nothing to the troops he commands, they would be deploying anyway, he is not weak, but should resign, to highlight the incompetence of those above him. The only weak element in this fiasco of hype has been the MoD, who have made a laughing stock of the Army, and handed a propaganda victory to the insurgents in Iraq.

Definitely not, it is not down to him at the end of the day. If he is sent then it will put those with him in even more jeopardy. I think the Media and everyone else needs to get off the lads back, We know he wants to serve his country that should be enough. Leave the man alone and let him get on with doing something at home that he needs to do. Like being given a job with the Princes Trust and getting stuck into sorting out some of the kids that NEED to be helped. Start a new Campaign with the help of William in Diana's name.

REMEMBER, CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME. These two young men could save the youth of this country, given the opportunity, and wherewithal.

He may not be a weak soldier but it shows what a farcical bunch of idiots are trying to control Iraq and Afganistan. I want a refund on my taxes because he has cost us all for the training and will not be much use. And a refund for for William cause it will be ethe same for him.

Just like WW1 - why are the poor sent to war?

It makes sense not to send Prince Harry to Iraq, it would put many lives at risk, his men would be in great danger simply because Prince Harry would become a prime target, it was a silly idea in the first place.
Put our men first, they need enough protection now it would be crazy to even consider sending the Prince

and i think many of his mens wives ,girlfriends whatever will be relieved.

you don't know what your talking about

he would be a main target for people and his presence would put greater danger on other soldiers in his troop

my husband is going to afghan in September and i for one would not be happy if his life was put in more danger than necessary just because people think sending harry would be the right thing to do

hi
I donot know that he is weak or strong or its all political stunt but yes, if he is soldier he should be ready to die like hundred's other. life of other soldiers will by anyway at risk. if prince charles dies what's big deal. he is a son to a mother like other comrades. why special arrangements for him.
instead government should be prepared to negotiate as they negotiate for other soldiers ,if he is sent to war.
it's right time for royal family to show what they are made of and set an example for others its easy to see others chidren die. then your own.............

It's not Harry's choice, but a SOUND choice by Gen Dannant, considering the amount of media coverage Harry gets, not only would Harry be a target, but so would the other soldiers in his platoon.

At least Harry wanted to go. At least he joined the military. Maybe we can talk about jenna and barb not enlisting, or most of our senator's children not joining.

Cheers to Harry, my favorite royal!

The Prince is no diferent than any other mother son and if he is the army he should go with his comrades and take his chances, as my son . My son was killed. The Royal Family are no diferent than anyone else. They lost the privaledgr of being diferent years ago.
A grieving mother.

No. Considering his status it shouldn't be expected of him. Atleast he offered, but I believe this decision is totally out of his hands to make. We don't expect the president of our country to put on a uniform and hit the front lines do we?

YES, i know it wasnt his decision but why the hell was he allowed to join if all he is going to do is sit behind a desk in the UK when his men are away on dutie abroad, so when they get back home does he then take control of his men again for Training Excercises!! if i was one of his soldiers i wouldnt be happy that he wasnt going into conflict with me.

I don't think he will be regarded as a weak soldier as he wanted to go and did not make the decision to be kept here.
And besides his comrades knew what they were getting themselves in for they wanted to be soldiers and have been training for this for months so I don't think there is any hypocrasy involved.

You can say that, but the argument for keeping him away is also valid, in my opinion. It might make better sense to not play into the hand of the enemy.

You make no sense. He is not going to Iraq because him being there makes such a security risk that the focus would not be on the war. Try a little understanding

un-winable war
listen, war is for the poor plain and simple, 99% of the people that sign up for the army do it to receive the benefits, and if you ask me they are dumb as hell to sign up now when we are in a war that shouldn't be.....as far as the prince he didn't have to sign up at all, i never thought he would be sent to the war but he should be applauded for showing that he cares.
