There are many reasons why America will not venture into a military conflict with North Korea but the main one is the fact that Bush's high level business cronies will not gain anything by it. I refere you to two major articles written by intelectuals who have an insight into the workings of the world's police man.

Those wondering why the US engages in so many conflicts (aside from the geopolitical reasons) and is always ready for another might consider the fact that wars are so good for business. Corporate America, Wall Street and large insider investors love them because they're so profitable. It shows up noticeably on the bottom line of all contractors the Bush administration chooses to "rebuild" Iraq and Afghanistan. It's also been a bonanza for the many consultants, engineers and mercenaries working for them who can pocket up to $1,000 a day compared to Afghan employees lucky to earn $5 for a day's work when they can find it.
In both Iraq and Afghanistan, huge open-ended, no-bid contracts amounting to many billions of dollars were awarded to about 70 US firms including the usual array of politically connected ones whose names have now become familiar to many - Bechtel, Fluor, Parsons, Shaw Group, SAIC, CH2M Hill, DynCorp, Blackwater, The Louis Berger Group, The Rendon Group and many more including the one that nearly always tops the list, Halliburton and its subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root. Since 2001, this arguably best-connected of all war-profiteers was awarded $20 billion in war-related contracts the company then exploited to the fullest by doing shoddy work, running up massive cost-overruns and then submitting fraudulent billings.

Afghanistan: The other lost war
By Stephen Lendman

www.globalresearch.ca

The United Nations has announced that opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has soared and is expected to increase by 59% in 2006. The production of opium is estimated to have increased by 49% in relation to 2005.
The Western media in chorus blame the Taliban and the warlords. The Bush administration is said to be committed to curbing the Afghan drug trade: "The US is the main backer of a huge drive to rid Afghanistan of opium... "
Yet in a bitter irony, US military presence has served to restore rather than eradicate the drug trade.
What the reports fail to acknowledge is that the Taliban government was instrumental in implementing a successful drug eradication program, with the support and collaboration of the UN.
Implemented in 2000-2001, the Taliban's drug eradication program led to a 94 percent decline in opium cultivation. In 2001, according to UN figures, opium production had fallen to 185 tons. Immediately following the October 2001 US led invasion, production increased dramatically, regaining its historical levels.
The Vienna based UN Office on Drugs and Crime estimates that the 2006 harvest will be of the order of 6,100 tonnes, 33 times its production levels in 2001 under the Taliban government (3200 % increase in 5 years).
Cultivation in 2006 reached a record 165,000 hectares compared with 104,000 in 2005 and 7,606 in 2001 under the Taliban.
According to the UN, Afghanistan supplies in 2006 some 92 percent of the world's supply of opium, which is used to make heroin.
The UN estimates that for 2006, the contribution of the drug trade to the Afghan economy is of the order of 2.7 billion. What it fails to mention is the fact that more than 95 percent of the revenues generated by this lucrative contraband accrues to business syndicates, organized crime and banking and financial institutions. A very small percentage accrues to farmers and traders in the producing country.
"Afghan heroin sells on the international narcotics market for 100 times the price farmers get for their opium right out of the field".(US State Department quoted by the Voice of America (VOA), 27 February 2004).

**************************************...
Afghanistan and Colombia are the largest drug producing economies in the world, which feed a flourishing criminal economy. These countries are heavily militarized. The drug trade is protected. Amply documented the CIA has played a central role in the development of both the Latin American and Asian drug triangles.
The IMF estimated global money laundering to be between 590 billion and 1.5 trillion dollars a year, representing 2-5 percent of global GDP. (Asian Banker, 15 August 2003). A large share of global money laundering as estimated by the IMF is linked to the trade in narcotics.

**************************************...
In other words, intelligence agencies, powerful business, drug traders and organized crime are competing for the strategic control over the heroin routes. A large share of this multi-billion dollar revenues of narcotics are deposited in the Western banking system. Most of the large international banks together with their affiliates in the offshore banking havens launder large amounts of narco-dollars.
This trade can only prosper if the main actors involved in narcotics have "political friends in high places." Legal and illegal undertakings are increasingly intertwined, the dividing line between "businesspeople" and criminals is blurred. In turn, the relationship among criminals, politicians and members of the intelligence establishment has tainted the structures of the state and the role of its institutions including the Military.

I doubt america will invade Korea. It has not solved the problem in iraq and they will not want another ground war. A friend of mine said they will nuke Korea to teach it a lesson and show all would be "Rogue Nations" that the USA will not tolerate this. I dont agree. China should play a key roll in solving this problem. The USA has only to arm the South and also Japan and other friendly nations in that part of the world to defend them against this threat. I hope it wont come to that, there are far too many nukes in the world to destroy it ten times over.

First up, you are not that good looking! Next, your esteemed leaders fear there just could be a bomb or two which will burn their arses. Not like in Iraq, where they knew there were no WMD's but had to sell it to you and the rest of the world there were WMD's to get the oil. Oil, my friend, not democracy or freedom for the poor bastards in Iraq. Oh, i am so tiered of the US, as the US has become a tiered nation, without destination, oh **** that even rhymes.

Does America think it is so powerful? That is a rather sweeping statement and I think you would have to take a poll to confirm it. America is made up of millions of people and I would not presume to speak for them all. I don't think everyone in America has a Power complex, or is extremely nationalistic. In fact, it would surprise me to learn that the majority are. Most of us love our country, though many are disappointed in some aspects of it. I think America is about the greatest country in the world, but I am not thinking of her great power. I am thinking of it being the best place to live. Power? Yes, in fact I do think we have a lot of power as a nation, but that does not mean we should go throwing it around trying to boss the world or run all the other countries' business for them and tell them what to do. Could we successfully invade and defeat North Korea? I believe that we probably could. Should we? That is an entirely another matter. I personally do not approve of a lot I hear about North Korea and her ruler, but unless he definitely becomes a threat to the US and the rest of the world, I do not see much point in picking a fight with him. I personally, as one small individual in this great nation hate war. I am a pacifist at heart and believe we should fight mainly in self-defence. That is just the way I see it. I am sure other Americans see things from their own point of view.

america is powerful. but (and if you live in a america, don't be offended!) you have a sh*t leader! hes made bad decisions, pulled good ole' britain into the pissup against terrorism, killed loads of innocents, soldiers, and heros of war. the reason he won't invade n. korea is because americas military is streached o the limit. plus if he did invade n. korea, it would cause global outrage, and do more harm than good, as n. korea is a closed country. the economy would literally fall apart. so, if you want to stop n. koreas tyranny, you mus tfirst stop bushes. OUT WITH BUSH!

i dont think america or any other country would "Invade" another, however i do think its hypocritcal for the US to go to iraq and seek out the "weapons of mass destruction" that werent there in the first place and then not do the same with korea, but it would probably cause a nuclear war, and that is something not many people would want. And i think the US president has probably thought of sending troops in there, but then stopped cos he remember korea dont have oil

Well .... Technically speaking the US is still at war with North Korea. The Korean War is still in a Cease Fire status. There has been no official ending to the Korean War.

As far as why the US hasnt invaded North Korea. Well why should they ?? Exactly what would that do ? IF the US went into North Korea Militarily then Kim Jong Il would no longer be in Power. China while having a large military does not have the resources or the funds to ensure that all of their troops have top of the line equipment. There is a big difference between a Type 98 MBT (Main Battle Tank) and a type 59 MBT. Even still the M1A2 Abrams MBT is a very nasty tank. Ask the Iraqi Armor forces and they will confirm that.
As far as a Nuclear War threat ?? I doubt that North Korea would use them since it is common knowledge that the US will retaliate in kind. Meaning if North Korea was dumb enough to launch its Nukes at the US or use them in theater then the US would retaliate by using nukes of our own.

As for why does America think it is so powerful ?? Well lets see. There is no other nation in the world that is emulated more than the US. Look around and what do you see ? American businesses are doing business overseas. Foreign Governments are trying to style themseves after the US Government. Now look at who the population is emulating. Hmmm looks to me like they are emulating Americans. Style of dress, language, Music...
Now lets look at who feeds most of the world. Yep you guessed it Its America. World War I and II were ended because of Americas direct intervention. Yes I know the Russians kept alot of German soldiers occupied on the western front. But if it wasnt for America supplying Russia they would have never lasted. Remember that in World War II that America was fighting on 2 seperate fronts. After World War II which nation was it that rebuilt Europe ? Hmmm let me think. Oh I know AMERICA. Which nation rebuilt Japan ?? I think it was America. Lets look at Natural Disasters. Which Nation is one of the first to send money, supplies and specialists to assist in recovery operations and ask for nothing in return ???? Hmmmm Yep America. Which nation, when it has its own Natural disaster doesnt go around and ask other nations for a helping hand or money or experts for assistance ?? Yepp same one America. Which country is the target for all this bashing as being all cocky and arrogant ? America. Which country after being bashed openly in the world media, burning that countrys flag, openly protesting and yet will assist you when you ask ?? Yep again America. You see America is the only true Superpower on the planet. Does America have problems ? Of course it does. America airs its dirty laundry out for the world to see. Why do they do that ?? So that they can be ridiculed, or scorned ?? No because it is showing the world that we too can make mistakes and grow from them. We are a Great nation and we can admit when we made a mistake. We have nothing to hide, we do not fear that we will lose face in the world opinion.
America is Cocky, they are Arrogant. They have every right to be so. They won the Cold War. They will win the War on Terrorism. The world is a better and safer place because of America.
Sleep well tonight for America is on Guard and will keep the bad people away.

We are living in 21 century and for being powerful, it isn't necessary to invade a country by military action. this form has changed nowadays, and you see that it doesn't work out *in Iraq*.
the America is powerful because it can lead the world public thoughts. n korea hasn't attomic bomb and America had this power to convince EU and other country.
America is powerful because without any document couldconvince the world that Iran is building attomic weapons, and it's clear that Iran is unable to do so.
America is powerful because it's for years which it's forces are in the persian golf and any country can't say why.

There's no question about it, America is a powerful nation. Upsetting North Korea is a dangerous game. N Korea may have nukes at their disposal and if they hear something they don't agree with, who knows what'll they do? Enforcing sanctions is in no way an act of war which N. Korea happens to deny. Think about Hiroshima, America was heavily condemned for their actions. Do you think they want to be responsible for a biological war?

It won't invade N Korea because they have nukes, though I heard a good description of the situation on a comedy show a couple of days ago.

Apparantly the Koreans only have 2 nukes, compared to the thousands that Amrica have.

The Korean nukes can only reach Alaska so are Korea really going to launch one, thinking "Hey, lets nuke Alaska, if the Americans have a go back we've still got another nuke to really teach them a lesson"

Then again the same program did go on to say you don't need a nuke to destroy most alaskan towns, a 3 bar electric fire & a couple of gallons of petrol will melt most of them.

EDIT

SHARDF .

You say LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE NUKES

Because Korea have nukes, and they're as mad as a box of frogs.

Ask yourself this. If you saw a deranged man wearing a dress, mumbling and arguing with himself, and waving a big knife in the air, would you try to disarm him, or would you just keep your distance and keep an eye on what he does?

That, and the fact that Korea doesn't have any oil reserves or other valuable commodities that George Bush can get his grubby little grasping monkey hands on.
