DASHLOC4ever	The point of war is to kill people and break things in order to cause your enemy to submit to your will. It sounds cruel but without war the USA would not be free, fascism would rule the world, there would be no Jews alive, terrorism would go unchecked Blacks would still be saves and on and on and on. cp_scipiom	depends on which side you are on. If you happen to be the attacker, then the idea is to take away from others what you want for yourself. Exactly the same as armed robbery, but on a much grander scale and justified by "revolution", "national liberation" or some such. Sometimes the basis (or rather excuse) is religion- for example Mongols thought that farming and house building was an insult to their gods of wind. Of course being able to pillage and rape in the process was also quite attractive to them. If you happen to be the defender then the whole point of war is being albe to stay alive and keep your customs, language and family. Or die trying. Allies usually get into a foreign war because they do not want to fight a war on their own land in the future However IMO the main problem with war is that there is a lot of cheating. coragryph	According to some military scholars -- it is to achieve by force what cannot be achieved by reason. Or as Von Klauschwitz said, it is the accomplishment of political policy by non-political means. In my opinion, it is used as a last resort by those unable to get their way through any other approach -- and it varies how quickly any given leader chooses to fall back on that "last resort" or whether they even bother trying other approaches.
